At 7:10 I hear running, I grab my bow and clip the release. I see a deer running towards me, I check to see what it is and it's a broken 8 his right side was snapped off right above his brow tine. Watching him search for the calls, I caught movement behind him running in. Boom there he was! The little buck ran off as soon as he arrived. He was way wiser than the little buck, he hung up at about 28 yds. He was perfectly in one of my shooting lanes, but was facing directly towards me. He froze there studying the landscape looking as hard as he could for about 3 minutes. The whole time I was shaking pretty good just trying to hold it together. Finally he started to relax and I could tell he was about to bolt, he turned to go back the way he came in. As soon as he turned I drew, he was quartering away hard. I settled my 20 yd pin a little high just in front of his backside hip and let it fly!!!!! I watched the arrow bury up to the fletching angled into the boiler room. I knew he was a goner. Waited about an 1 1/2 to go find him. We had a hard time tracking him because of the lack of exit wound, his cavity had to fill up first. After finding specks of blood 300 yds later we found him. I taped him out at 158" 6/8". He's my biggest to date by 4 inches.

Would like more information about the area and how you are hunting. Are you hunting in deep timber or near food plots? Is their a feeder near your stand or do you prefer to hunt funnels and travel ways?

I have great deer but only seeing them on cameras during night near food sources. The woods were too thick to hunt this year since we got on the lease in August. I think we will do better clearing wooded areas and hunting without feeders. Any feedback is appreciated.

Same here. Sat this morning and checked my card on my Stealthcam hand held...there yesterday 7:18, but not today(got out of the stand at 10). Walked the other stand to check activity, and there were prints all over the road/fenceline, along with some big bobcat tracks. On Cam 2: Had a group of 3 does in munching corn yesterday evening at 6:30.

Also, got 4 trespassers...

I've got does and young ones hitting the feeder again in shooting light morning and evenings. I also have my main target buck on cam twice in the morning at 8am and 830am in the last two weeks. He's back from roaming and staying in the area. I have night pics of him almost every night. Just a matter of time. I've seen deer in my last two sits on Wed morning and last evening. Hope to be back out this weekend. Good luck. Hard freeze will get those last acorns and a deer has to eat.

Hunted Thursday evening and all day Friday. Heard one doe snort early morning Friday just before light, that was it. Considering getting away from feeder stands and hunting fire breaks/trails the rest of the season. I have 3 adjacent property owners with stands and feeders within 30-50 yds of my North, South, and East property lines (West is Enterprise rd.) if not on the fence line. My tract has been in the CRP program and I think everyone assumes they stay on my property, but they don't. With my feeders going(on 160 acres), and the other hunters surrounding me, they have 5-6+feeding options at those given times.

1) What do you think about getting off the corn?

2)Thoughts on hunting along fence lines? (aside from obviously your deer could cross after being shot)

Do what you need to do.

Deer were not coming to my feeder until the last couple of weeks. Earlier in the season I gave up hunting the feeder and started hunting over wildlife trails.

Now that they are back at my feeder so I'm hunting over the feeder again

Weve hunted hard the past week here. We are seeing abundant movement on our ag fields. Theyre definitely off the natural occuring food at this point. Weve had 3 different sightings of big shooter bucks locked down with does. Including one encounter, not by me, with a buck that was claimed to be well into the 170s at about 45 yards. He never turned broadside for a good shot at that distance. There is definitely does coming into heat currently at our place. We jusr havent got lucky enough to have a doe tow a big boy by us yet.

I stuck around for DPS, and he said GW was on his way and would take it to hang on the wall of the GW office.

I sat for the last 5 days in two different locations 20 miles apart and did not see a single deer. Squirrels on the other hand were everywhere. Hopefully this weekend weather will change things.

I'm ready for the worst season ever to be over. Hopefully some of the bucks that I had pics of made it, they'll only be bigger next year. I'm bringing a dozer in after season to clear for some plots, I have to change something. These past 2 seasons have been terrible, I never would have thought I could have a season as bad as last year, this year blows it out of the water.

I had 4 of the best plots you've ever seen. Barely got used this year, bc the deer have stayed on acorns all year. Back to the drawing board. Coming out of those drought years several years back fooled me

Same on our tract. Only few smaller bucks came out at all during daylight hours. We gave up a few shots on does in hopes of trailing bucks. No shots, no kills.

Time to do a little varmint cleanup....

I've got a good poaching report. Been seeing some nice bucks at night, and someone dumped a big bodied buck , with no head off the bridge at Sister Grove on Lincoln Park Rd. Called warden. We'll see. Very sad with such a small population to loose deer to **** poachers.

Any updates... Been slow. Have had 2 decent bucks cruising that we let walk. Still hoping a nice one comes by while in the blind. The 20th of Oct or so and the cold rainy days of Nov 8th and 9th had my best movement. Wish we could get a freeze. Anybody got any thoughts....??
