Good movement this morning. Bucks cruising, probably looking for that last available doe. Last year my cameras showed me 11/27-12/2 was the best time for daytime movement of nature bucks and looks like we're right on schedule again this year.

They've been moving all week between 7-10 and 4-dark on and off, but family commitments (aka wife) have kept me from the stand when they are there.

I had 4 does and a small buck come in and eat hand corn for about 30 min. I'm going to shoot a doe tomorrow if they come back in during the morning.

Oh wow you've got Turkey's? I've seen Rio's on the West side of Grayson, but none on the Eastside? Are they Eastern or Rio's?

Also not a lot of movement on Saturday, but did have two little bucks come within 10 yards, so I know it wasn't me scent.

I think they are Easterns. I'n not a Turkey expert though. Ive only hunted Rio's. What would be the best way to tell the difference? Maybe some closer pics?








We've got that group and a bigger group. Big Toms in each. That one with this group has a triple beard. We are letting them all go this year and probably next in hopes they will populate.


I had the 4.5yo I saw earlier in season come by at 12 yards this morning about 730 and again at 745. Boy he will be NICE in a couple of years. He is every bit of 140" of slick 10, just not quite old enough yet. He has a Dinner pass for this year for sure. I sure hope our neighbors can hold their strings too. Back in this same spot this afternoon. I know it's only a matter of time before one of the big bucks comes down this trail I'm on. I haven't been skunked here yet this season. Now that I say that you can almost guess what will happen tonight.

Trail comes out, top left of image, from bedding areas towards out fields behind me. Makes a left turn about 30 yards away, center of image. Then exits, bottom left of image, passing 12 yards from my stand.

Grayson county has Eastern and Rio mix. Look for the dark tail feathers on the tips. Rio are a lighter color Eastern are a darker brown! They both eat good!

Had three doe pass 40 yards near my new house at 9:35 this morning. It I'm still moving and unpacking so no hunting for me.

This morning should be a good one. Wish I could be out there. I had PTO scheduled until the Holiday rush on bid projects started on Friday. Everybody needs stuff this week. Great time for it. Good luck to all that get a chance to get in the stand.

This is my target buck. He showed up back to the feeder on the 22nd at 0800, on the 26th at 2020, and yesterday at 0820. I've had another 3 year old also regularly visiting the feeder in the past few days. I've seen cracked open acorns left on the ground like the crunched them and spit them back out. I think they are starting to come back to the corn. My hand corn site shows no deer activity on cam. The feeder is the hot spot.

Story goes like this, front blew in Tuesday night. Got in the stand about 6:10, put out some doe in estrus before hand. I like to blind call during pre rut, rut and post-rut, so about 7:00 it was light enough to call. I always start with 3-4 doe bleats and wait about 3-4 minutes and hit up a tending grunt sequence. At 7:10 I hear running, I grab my bow and clip the release. I see a deer running towards me, I check to see what it is and it's a broken 8 his right side was snapped off right above his brow tine. Watching him search for the calls, I caught movement behind him running in. Boom there he was! The little buck ran off as soon as he arrived. He was way wiser than the little buck, he hung up at about 28 yds. He was perfectly in one of my shooting lanes, but was facing directly towards me. He froze there studying the landscape looking as hard as he could for about 3 minutes. The whole time I was shaking pretty good just trying to hold it together. Finally he started to relax and I could tell he was about to bolt, he turned to go back the way he came in. As soon as he turned I drew, he was quartering away hard. I settled my 20 yd pin a little high just in front of his backside hip and let it fly!!!!! I watched the arrow bury up to the fletching angled into the boiler room. I knew he was a goner. Waited about an 1 1/2 to go find him. We had a hard time tracking him because of the lack of exit wound, his cavity had to fill up first. After finding specks of blood 300 yds later we found him. I taped him out at 158" 6/8". He's my biggest to date by 4 inches.

Sat for a bit this afternoon. Nothing was moving. Cameras showed some deer rut activity late in the evening. But still mostly nocturnal. It's frustrating to have great bucks and little opportunity to see them during shooting hours.
