Why a Spring Break for children K through 12

Why do children ages K through 12 need/deserve a Spring Break? When I was in high school, there was no Spring Break and we got along just fine.

I am not if favor of this. I am really not in favor of high school aged children getting to go off to places like South Padre unescorted. My 18 y/o stepson has been given permission by his dad to go. But since dad is out of country, I will be the one getting the phone call if he gets in a bind.

Or is Spring Break just for the teachers??

I loved and still love spring break. I get to take my kids away for a week vacation.

        Seriously... get over it.

Highschool kids are people too. They deserve time off. They work hard.

If you don't want your kid to be able to go to South Padre and have fun with his friends, fine... you fight that battle...

No reason to project it on everyone elses kids... lol

I wish my company would give me a week off for spring break!

You might not have had a Spring Break in highschool but, I bet you had an Easter Break. It's the same thing.

I don't have a problem with it. Heck I wish I got a spring break. I think its good for teachers and kids get a break. They get a break in the fall, called Thanksgiving.

I think my only gripe is that it's not what I want to do with my vacation time.

So I'm taking a couple days off so the kids have something to do.

Why are you blaming the break on letting the kids go off to places unescorted? Sounds like it's the parents letting them go off unescorted to me. I never got a spring break do to baseball, but I always wanted to go to Padre or somewhere like that. Would our parents have let us? Doubt it, and that would have been the end of it. We would go fishing on our days off from baseball during the week and we had a good time. I'm just tired of parents blaming everyone else when there kids screw up! If you raise your kids right from the start they will know what they should and shouldn't do. Is every kid still gonna be perfect? NO, but they'll still be alot better than the kids that don't get good guidance, and family upbringing. Yes the kids deserve the Spring Break, as do the teachers! They both (majority of them) bust their tail all year long. A week off is good for the kids to blow off some steam, and it's really important for the Faculty's morale!

Were they all in one school house?

My dad used to take off every spring break, and we fished for about 8 days straight, all over the state......it was awesome!

we used to go to san antonio and austin for spring break and play golf for the week. We would always finish with a practive round at whatever course we were going to be playing the state tournament at there in Austin. Always had a great time.

Well why not? Geesh! Some of the best times of my life were spent javelina hunting with my kids on Spring Break. It has become a tradition with my family. Even though my kids are grown, we still go every year. As for kids going off to S Padre unattended - that seems like an issue more suited to be handled by parents. What about the teachers? Don't they deserve a break?
Back in my day, we didn't have Spring Break either, but we always had a couple of days for Easter Break. What's the difference?

The school's job is to educate your children. It is not their job to raise them or babysit them. Parents need to take a more active roll in raising their kids and stop expecting the schools and police to do it for them.

Spring Break - Bring it on!

Seriously, some of my best memories as a youth were my spring breaks at Gulf Shores, AL and Panama City, FL.

Did I do things I shouldn't have, you bet but I wouldn't change it for the world.
