    is this a tomatillo?

this is growing in the middle of the pasture on a place i am buying. it's a long way from the nearest structures of any kind. there is a deer stand about 100 yards away though.

maybe it's where a breakfast taco was eaten or "released" a while back?

Closely related. I think Groundcherry based on location,

A blog is about the wild edible and medicinal plants of Texas and North America. It is run by chemist herbalist Dr. Mark Merriwether Vorderbruggen.

Not a tomatillo but still edible. Make some green salsa from it and add serrano pepper. https://www.eattheweeds.com/physalis...wild-cousin-2/

Don't eat them until they are ripe. Bellyache bad

We have always called them small tomatillo's, but ours don't match the groundcherry inner core that was posted above in Muzzlebrakes link.

I dont know if they eat the fruit, but they do eat the plants. I let them grow on a particular area of my property and see them eating them.
