    Native Sunflower Seeds

I reached out to Turner Seed, but was wondering if I can get them closer to La Grange, TX.

How are y’all broadcasting them. I’m worried the seed is so small they will just run out of my 3 point hitch broadcaster.

should do fine through broadcaster, if not you can mix the seed with fertilizer and broadcast together

what ever you plant use a cultipacker on the area after you broadcast your seeds. It makes a huge difference in growth.

Not really. They can be planted now through January. You want to plant them when they naturally fall from the plant which is now.

They need a freeze to germinate and if you plant them now you are likely to lose some seed to birds, etc.

What’s going to stop them from eating them in January?

I know what will stop them in September!

We did this a while back at the Slack Ranch and broadcast them with a truck feeder that we modified to get the rate we wanted. That worked well, but a flood washed most of it out days later. A cultipacker, or light drag is definitely a good idea.

Probably nothing, but the birds will have a few extra months to eat them if planted now.

My FIL would pay me me double the cost of the seed if it would bring a flood. Still looks like a desert out there.

I just reserved 3 sacks from Poque Ag in Kennedy. He said definitively no fertilizer. Crappier the ground the better. My kind of plant.
