    Insurance claim - delayed repair

    I have an insurance claim from about 6 weeks ago. The insurance approved the repair. The dealer hasn't been able to get the parts. The truck is just sitting there and can't be driven. The dealer said he has no idea when we will get parts. Is there anything I can do or do I just have to wait?

    My daughters car was just in the shop for 66 days for insurance not wanting to cover some parts and the shop not being able to get parts.

      I think you’re SOL. Personally, I don’t understand how the supply chain issue continues for darn near everything.

        Used parts? My son just hit a deer and the body shop got a used bumper and fender for about 1/3 of the price of new parts.

          My truck has been in the shop since the end of June. Waiting on the diagnostic unit for the side airbag still.

            I just went thru this. Thankfully my truck was still driveable. I had them order and receive all parts before I turned it over. Wreck occured 6/9. Finally got parts by 8/1. 3 weeks to repair, just got my rig back last week

              I personally would not have brought it to a dealership. Actually paint & body shops seem to be able to get parts more quickly, charge less and do a better job. We dealt with this last November when young man broadsided me while I was driving my daughters car.

              I would suggest getting the parts needed list from the dealer or insurance (they should have a copy) and shop around yourself or reach out to a recommended body shop

                  As soon as I read the OP I thought this also.

                  I would call some body shops and see what they say and then have it towed there if they promise better times.

                  The dealer is likely waiting on FoMoCo made parts only. Body shops get same parts aftermarket and look just as good(most times).

                    Is it drivable?

                    If so, ask them for the vehicle back until the parts come in. Insurance company should not have anything to say about it.

                    I claimed damage on my car in February but due to how busy the shop is and other priorities on my car, I still have not taken it in. I will soon, but I'm waiting on a mechanical replacement part to come in. Once the mechanics are fixed I'll take it to the shop. In the meantime, I'm driving it every day.

                      That's what the insurance company is hoping you will give in and go for. After they don't put you in a rental, for the time that you don't have your car.

                      The insurance companies have turned the whole covid mess, into a big win for them. When I worked for insurance companies, the clock was ticking from the time, a person called to file a claim. Once the insurance company accepted liability and put the person in a rental, then we had so many hours to complete each step, or we would be getting a call from our boss. Then they were serious afraid of getting TID complains filed. Now a TID complaint does not amount to crap. Back then a TID complaint meant everybody stop what you are doing and get the problem with this claim fixed quick. Now it's just a note in the TID system, that does not seem to go anywhere, does not amount to anything.

                      Then I am guessing that because the rental car companies sold off their fleet of rentals and could not get new ones for a good while there. The insurance companies got themselves out of having to supply rental cars. Once that happened, they no longer have any reason to get a claim completed quickly/vehicle repaired quickly. The longer it drags out, the long till they have to write the repair check or final supplement check.

                      So we are still paying for our insurance, but they are often not paying for rentals and greatly delaying when they pay for the repairs. Back when I was working for insurance companies, the rental was estimated to cost a given percentage of the repair. There were times the rental was 50% of the cost. Most of the time, it was probably more like 20%. Their profits have to be way up in the past two years, more so, since they have most of their employees working from home. Then many companies mostly did away with field adjusters and appraisers, at least for a while. So they did not have to provide them with a company car, or pay their expenses, for fuel ECT. By not having employees in the office, their electric bills are way down, and they probably laid off most of their cleaning crews.

                      This whole covid BS did not hurt the insurance companies at all. Then with Biden in office, pushing more socialist health care, the insurance companies profits have to be off the chart right now.


                      A bit over a year ago, my daughter got hit by a guy who ran a red light, at the time, it seemed like he left the scene, the police thought he left the scene, so did everyone else at the intersection where the accident happened. I think he tried to leave the scene, but his truck would not go any farther, because his right front wheel was folded in. We figured out he had his girlfriend in his truck, so I guess he was in a hurry to get her back home, or get to her house. Then his wife found out about the girlfriend in the truck at the time of the accident. She was not happy at all.

                      But it turns out the guy had USAA insurance, so I was happy when we figured that out. I have written USAA claims before, they used to be great. Not anymore. Most everyone we talked to was working at home, if not all of them. The adjuster assigned to the claim never talked to us once. We tried to get her on the phone many times, they gave us about 30 different excuses why she could not answer the phone. Bottom line is we were told repeatedly that she had to make various decisions on the claim, but then she would never answer the phone, or call us back. Then other adjusters would claim they would help us, then when we told them the info they had on my daughter's car was wrong. Their answer was always, that they would pass the info along to the person assigned the claim. The main problem was they had the wrong info for my daughter's car. Their info claimed the car was something other than it was. So putting the value of the car, lower than it should have been.

                      Bottom line, is we got nowhere with the whole deal. The adjuster stuck to her original appraisal value, absolutely would not talk to us. I think that is part of their game for keep their costs down. The adjuster assigned the claim has to make decisions and they are going to keep you from talking to the adjuster, and giving them info might increase the payout amount.

                        They are losing money bad. Geico has pulled out of 17 states. Talked to my rep the other day and was told all the policies are now stupid expensive. I told her I would start shopping her numbers...

                          wifes car was in shop 4 months earlier this year from a small fender bender (other driver at fault), they could not get a strut. i had them look for an aftermarket or one from a wrecked vehicle. It is a 2021 and neither of those were available. Insurance kept paying for rental, so we just waited

                            my son's car has been in the shop for a minor scratch and dent for about 6 weeks. Dealer said they are waiting on an insurance adjuster to stop by.

                              Insurance wouldn't even send an adjuster. I had to take pics and send em in
