We used to hunt in Concho county, and it was like we had 2 different types of deer. The ranch guy called one a Hill country deer, which was a grey color, smaller bodied, bigger horns. Then he called the other ones Range deer. Those were more red, bigger bodied, but smaller horns. We killed 2 bucks the same morning one day, and it was one of each. Their jaw bones showed the same age, but one was an inch longer than the other one. They were probably 30 lbs different, and the "hill country" deer had 25" on the "Range" deer.
