The lead that just sold had 10 spots and was around 3500 acres. But as long as we could find 1000 or so, that would work too (me, my dad, my uncle). For my spot, Wesley usually fills my limit...lol.

This will be my first year on a lease in this neck of the woods. Got a on place outside of Snow, OK. It's mainly a place to take my 10 year old daughter hunting with her crossbow.

I've got some cameras in place now and hanging feeders between trees and now I'm working on stands. Do the bears jack with popup blinds? Was just thinking that popups (even on slightly elevated platforms) would be a better option than using a ladder stands or building a box blinds.

Weíve had some crazy winds in last month around push county. Some pushing 85 mph, pretty neat to watch unless you live on several hundred acres of big oak trees. Chainsaw hates me.

Need some input fellas..

What would be a reasonable lease price for 230 acres in the foothills west of Poteau in LeFlore county, area known for solid deer, 2 to 3 hunters archery only.

Anybody interested in a 660 acre lease near Savanna, OK (A few miles from the Ammo Plant)? I just leased from this landowner (my lease is east of Kiowa). He is honest and upfront. Seems very reasonable, but no turkeys are allowed to be taken. The lease will have 4 hunters and I'd really like to include one of my friends on this lease. So really looking for 3 people that are interested.

Anybody that knows the Ammunition Base knows how many deer are in this area. The per gun is $2,000. I've never seen this piece of property, but I have no doubts that it will be great. I really wanted to lease this piece....but I got too excited and pulled the trigger a little further SE of here.

PM me and we can talk chat more. I'm not making anything off of this, but trying to screen people for the landowner.

I shot a 140 inch 10 on johns valley road 12 years ago. We hunted there one year and a few others shot some 120Ē deer. Lack of access control and jeepers where just way too much for us. My dad parked on our road and a crawler tried to squeeze by and ripped up one side of his Tahoe. The deer and turkey are there, but control is a huge issue.

Everyoneís crop is looking good this year. I just got on 800 acres that is in Choctaw and Push counties. Itís our first year in the place and itís timber so no telling what the prior situation was like. We are seeing tons of average to decent 8ís. We are also hoping to stay as long as we can and try to improve the herd. Is that even possible or are we looking at 8 point genetics in the area?

We have lots of 8's. But lots of splits and kickers run strong on our place. Shot a slick 12 couple years back off our place. Now have this 10 with split g2's.

Awesome buck!!! The largest we have seen are 8’s. No trash yet either!!! Maybe we will see what the rut brings in...not sure what our neighbors are shooting either. Thinking about feeding protein next year to see if that might start to improve things

nice! We just completed our work weekend. Everything is ready and cameras are soaking. I'll be up during the first or second week of October to bow hunt and check on things. We already have acorns on the ground so I am hoping the go through them quickly...

I am thinking of making a trip to public land there next week or the next. Are the deer moving in the daylight hours in early October? It will also be a scouting trip for a return in Nov.

I was fortunate to be able to hunt on land in western Choctaw County, but now they are leasing it. Have not been up there since 2009 and have been wanting to go back.

Well just spent a weekend in Honobia checking cams and doing some serious scouting before black powder season. Had to find a new camp site, another big chunk of public land on the western edge of the WMA was sold off, probably lease expansion. Hurts my heart and soul. Lots of memories over there including the last few years with my grandfather. I hope none of y'all are contributing to the loss...

However, deer are hitting acorns hard, and I couldn't find a low limb without a scrape under it. It's heating up! Got a picture of a chocolate antlered stud, named him Hershey.

Well Gents, we spent the weekend in Godís country and what a weekend it was! Looking at the higher temps things were not ideal but you gotta go when you can. Between serving at church, football games for my sophomore, marching-band-cult daughter (percussionist), and our 12 year old sonís competitive basketball and tennis schedules itís like threading the needle fitting everything in that is important to us in this phase of our life. (Iím sure many of you are nodding and thinking ďAmen, brotherĒ to that.)

My son is eaten up with fishing and that fever is currently running neck in neck with the idea of killing his second buck ever and it being a whopper. We agreed that mornings were my time to hunt solo while he and Papa fish. Evenings would be our time to chase his first bow buck.

On Saturday evening we got out on stand and really enjoyed the sit. .

He let a young buck walk mid way through our sit, which was only because we had a bigger buck hitting this spot regularly. He rolled the dice and it was a good gamble.

Our target buck made an appearance about 45 minutes later and fed with his rear-end pointing at us for seven minutes 18 yards away.

He finally rotated but wouldnít give us a clean broadside shot. I was afraid that he would pick up and move to the clear cut without stopping so I greenlighted the hard quartering away shot.

Being 12 he put the arrow where heís been taught to put it for a broadside shot. The deer didnít know what hit him. He stumbled into the 4 year old clear cut. Pines are about 10-15 feet tall. We backed out and had dinner before returning around 8 PM and blood trailed until we lost the trail around 11 PM. We took up the track the next morning and picked up the blood trail again only to lose it around 300 yards from the shot location. No bloody bed and no jumped deer. Bright red blood. After 4 more hours of searching we called it. Monday before we left we made another round on the Ranger to look for buzzards but no luck. After consulting with members of the deer hunting Jedi council there is a very good chance that this buck will survive, given the angle and forward location of the shot. That is my prayer at this point.

TAKEAWAYS: I made a poor decision to have Will take a low percentage shot that he wasnít ready for. Iíve got to be patient and show him how to take a better shot. I will take a lot away from this experience.

I canít describe the emotions brought on by seeing him lose this buck and knowing that it didnít have to end this way. I wanted to pack up and head home but he pushed me to fish so we fished, which was good therapy.

On Monday morning while he and Papa continued their quest for the big bass I moved to another area as we thoroughly blew out the other set. The front was trying to push through so it was windy with a lot of shifting. I put this stand up two days prior and corned it so this was my first sit at this new set. Folks may have a poor opinion of hunting on windy days but Iíve had a lot of encounters when conditions were less than ideal. This sit was no different. Nothing had touched the corn so as I stalked up 45 minutes before shooting light under the cover of a dim, red headlamp let me tell you, my spirits were not high. Around 7:40 a 3.5 year old basket 10 pt materialized immediately behind me, along the trail I walked in on. For the next 25 minutes he slowly worked his way around some brush that was blocking a shot (and providing me with great cover) he finally inched into my shooting lane. I came to full draw multiple times after dealing with limbs blocking vitals and a previously unseen, twisted peep sight that reflected the rising sun to a degree that I couldnít make out the deer at all, it all came together.

~50 yards was all he could muster.

Entry:

Exit:

This is the first of three that we need to put in the freezer this season.

The boy and I will be back at it in a couple of weeks and my plan it to get him back in a position to harvest a deer ASAP. We had a great time together and have to take the good with the bad. God is good and I praise Him
for the opportunity to spend time with my family in His creation.

One down. 10:30 this morning not much of a story but made me work for it. Checked 5/6 scrapes and never gave up a shot. Luckily and little **** head came in and made him turn just enough. Slipped one in him and he made it all of 15 yards. Little guys starting to bump does, big boys will be about a week behind them.Name: IMG_2562.jpg
