I have a lot of country to cover, so I can pick and choose. But it is tough no doubt. Having to do a lot of pre-scouting and not just assume that my good spots are still call-able. Right now stand locations are limited for sure. The last month or so I have walked into multiple places I thought I could call, only to have to walk back out without calling because it wouldn't work. Toughest I have seen it in a long time from a visibility standpoint. Broomweed and another weed I think is curly cup gumweed if I remember my old plant ID classes correctly are the main ones I am fighting.

Nobody wants to hear it, but a good heavy snow or ice storm would help a lot. I've got some places IDK if I will be able to call at all this year. I'm not carrying the bolt action 243 very much, instead using the suppressed 14.5" AR because it is so much faster in cover. I took a 2 day carbine class at Badlands Tactical last spring and have been practicing a whole lot with that AR, it has really helped my rapid target transitions. Looks like that is a skill I may be needing with my calling this year. It sure helped on the stands this weekend.

I saw several big boys moving as I drove home today. Made it to my stand 15 minutes ago. A lot can happen in 45 minutes.

I plan on going again today. Last season I had at least 8 different bucks come in on a regular basis. All I have seen this year is 2 yearling bucks and a group of does. Hope things pick up soon. Deer activity seems to be picking up these last few days.

Denson shot a good one on our place yesterday afternoon after basically no movement since Saturday. Lots of rain and cold temps up until after lunch, but when it broke, they started to move. I will let him post the pics.

Of course he cheated and used a rifle!

I was excited to get out there. Arriving to my blind 45 minutes before shooting light is over probably didn't help the cause.
I have seen a lot of heavy bodied deer this year. I guess we are finally getting some mature bucks back in the herd since the drought?

Last night was a lot of fun. I had several doe come in and a couple of nice bucks. The bucks were sparring and working a scrape next to my blind. The biggest buck was like a male dog running around pissing every where. There was fawns sucking on momma and does working the same scrape. All of this within 30 yards of me. I love bow hunting!

Only 1 nice 8 this morning. It's been pretty slow.

I had 3 nice bucks come in this morning and took a big 8. Iíve always wanted a good 8 point for the wall and didnít think twice when he came out. The massive 225 lb body had me thinking he wasnít as big as he really was. It was a pleasant surprise when I walked up on him. He is 22 7/8 inside with 5 3/8 bases.

This guy was taken last night on our place in Kent Co. Quick run of the tape had him at 144 7/8. Live weight of 208. 2s and 3s were all 10.5 to 11.25. Beams and brows kept him from hitting 150".

After a horrible season last we finally had a break out start this year. Have several new bucks on cams and does finally came back. I got a nice mature buck Sat eve., I knew he was mature when he stepped out, all the other deer left and his body was huge. He turned away briefly and I saw how wide he was. When I walked up on him there was no ground shrinkage! He has a roman nose, several scars, busted ears. I looked in his mouth and he only had 3 teeth! He was definitely past his prime. He's not the best buck out there but he was a good one to take.

Some nice deer showing up in this thread, looks like things are picking up.

My son was feeding cows yesterday morning and saw a big 10 chasing a doe. About time I guess.

Yes, age class gap from 2011-2013 finally moving on. Had great fawn crops 2014-2019, except for 2018. That means 2020-2025 or longer should be amazing years for big deer, if we get rainfall during those times, and the top quality bucks of each age class make it to 6-7 yrs.

They are chasing. This weekend I saw a couple large bucks breeding does and several just cruising around looking to breed. Also seeing lots of small bucks running through the country side. Wheat fields around me have been loaded with dozens of does feeding as well. In my experiences mature bucks start looking for feed after they have done some fighting and breeding and they will start coming to the feeder whenever soon.

I sat both Saturday night and Sunday morning in Garza county. I had a shooter within 20 yards both sits. Amazing how often that happens when you are out of buck tag(s) for that county. I just want a mature doe to come in and shooter bucks stand broadside in front of me. I think it is just payback for the tail kicking I took last year. Deer are definitely on the move. Everyone saw bucks on our place this weekend.

We're hoping to catch the 2nd rut in December. Won't be able to make it to the Panhandle until then. I did shoot a buck chasing a doe on Dec 30th one year.
