Default What Rifle Do I Need?

I bought a scope on a "deal alert" last year. Zeiss Conquest V4 3-12x44.

I can't decide what to buy to put it on. I have the following.

6.5 CM - Savage 110
.308 - Savage Model 10 set up for Subsonic/Suppressor
.30-06 - Old Remington
Multiple ARs in 5.56
.22 and .22 mag

Definitely looking for a new caliber - maybe a short-ish deer rifle for a truck gun?

Spend my money.

What glass do you have on the first three? And your use of the first three?

Grendel on ar platform. All you need is an upper. You already have a lower

308 and 6.5CM both have Vortex Vipers - one with HST and one with PST but can't remember which.

I use the 308 suppressed with subsonics only - mostly for pigs.

The 6.5 is my primary deer gun, but it is long and heavy.

.30-06 is just a safe gun for sentimental value - has whatever cheap glass I got it with. I won't use it.

CZ 527 Varmint in .204 Ruger.

Get another savage 10 6.5 cm with a 20 in barrel. And put the scope on it.
Like thus 110 storm light weight

7mm08 with a short barrel for a truck gun. Light recoil with more knockdown power than 243.

I love short barreled .308s for truck guns. A Zeiss 3-12 doesn’t sound very wieldy on a truck gun though.

I've been real happy with my Ruger American Predator 18". I bought it as beater/truck gun but it's so light and handy it goes on more hunts than my other premium guns.

IMO that is the only round/rifle in your arsenal that would ethically and effectively reach out past 400 yards for an elk or other hefty critter. You have no long distance hunting rifle with *** if the 06 stays in the safe.

30-06, 270, 7mm mauser, 7mm mag, 7mm stw, 300 win mag

Dust that 0-6 off, mount that scope and shoot it.

Aggiman12, you could get all those rifles. And use that scope on each one. In other words, share that scope with each rifle. Just make sure each rifle has a mil spec picatinny rail for mounting the scope. Use quick release rings on the scope. Make a note of where the rear or forward ring sits. And know how many clicks it takes to get to each rifle's POI. You can share a scope with several rifles that way. Make sure the scope is all the way forward towards the muzzle end, when putting the ring bolt in it's slot. This will help retain the POI when remounting. If it is set toward the back of the slot, the scope could shift under recoil from inertia, causing the POI to be off.

30-30 best trunk gun a person could have. Most truck guns need to be short, quick and have enough knockdown to get the job done.

Considering what the ammo forecast looks like you might even consider getting a rifle in a caliber you already have ammo for.

I'd like to give a general answer to the the question of "what rifle do I need." The correct answer is "any one you don't already have." That's why God gave us so many calibers.

I bought a Remington 783 Tactical 6.5CM for a truck/buggy gun and absolutely love it. It has a 16 1/2Ē heavy barrel and is extremely handy for quick shots. I put a $300 Nikon 3-9 scope on it as I didnít want to worry about banging around nice glass. Iím not sure why they get so much negative press, but Iím very pleased with my 783 Tac. Shoots great for a budget truck gun.

Check to see what ammo you can obtain before getting one chambered in a new to you round. At least short term.

Ruger American Predator .308. It's my truck/Ranger/four wheeler gun. It's the cheapest rifle I own, but it gets the most use. You can't have too many .308's.
