Default Advice on boat for one trip on trailer that is not registered.

I need to pull a boat about 2 hours distance, trailer is not currently registered. What is the easiest and best solution? Not looking to get a ticket..... have never really worried it in the past but the driving the truck to the shop thread earlier has me thinking a little harder about it.

Could have phrased the title a little better..... lol sorry

I was looking at the one trip tags but it specifically says not good for boat trailer with a boat on it....

This is what I usually do..... but at the cost of the ticket just not sure that itís worth it.... especially seeing as Iíll go through 7 small towns.... several of which of course have a cop sitting at the city limits

Have the boat (and trailer...if applicable) sales reciept. Make sure trailer lights work. Just drive. Some minor...safe...civil disobedience...aint gonna hurt no one. Just plan and budget on getting a ticket and when you do...you wont be surprised. Dont draw attention by driving too fast or too slow.

Done it in urban north Austin. I was aight. Youll be aight.

Does it have an expired plate already? I'd drag it but then again my trailer tags are usually always a year expired

I canít recommend a course of action but I can tell you that I inadvertently towed my boat regularly for a year and a half before realizing I never got a renewal notice for my trailer registration. I had to go in person to the Williamson cty tax office and settle things.

I've pull my boat all over without tags on the trailer never been pulled over. Now they are current I just keep them in the toolbox because I had them stolen one time.

Don't get caught. I wouldn't want to make crap up on that if you do get pulled over. I would rather risk the tags that are on there before I went that route.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest getting the tags current would be the easiest and best solution.

It would be but Iím just taking the boat to a buyer, if I was keeping it tags would already be current.

I donít want to either, hence the reason I will not just swap a tag. Itís easier to figure out the right thing to do then get caught doing the wrong thing intentionally.

30 day temp is 25 bucks- ticket is more than I intend to have to pay. I think that is my route and intention. I am just feeling out if there is a better, honest, way to do it.

Yep....or swap tags out on another trailer for the trip! Not like they are gonna write MF on your ticket. Grow a pair son!

Get a one way and if you get pulled over just say you didn't know. We put the one way on multiple trailers and camper things when we moved leases. Didn't get pulled over.

Just take it to the buyer. If you get stopped tell the truth, that you are taking it to it’s new owner. Most LEO’s are good guys if you shoot them a straight arrow. You probably won’t get stopped anyway but avoid high traffic times, especially school zones during active periods.

I know a lot of people who don't even put tags on boat trailers because they get stolen. Most never have issues.

I got stopped by a GW at the boat ramp. He asked me where my plate was. I told him "heck, I just wired that dang thing on there with a new piece of bailing wire. Someone must have stolen it". He just laughed and drove off.

Ok this is a little off topic but why the heck do you have to pay extra per trailer when you already pay way more for a truck license ? the trailer is not a motorized vehicle and when it is hooked to your truck it is now part of your truck. it's just a BS money grab !
I think LA doesn't require trailer licenses for that reason

Drive it and forget about it. I drove my camper back and forth to my lease for 4 years with out of date tags. Pick a route that has little traffic.
