Reading up on the bulletproof coffee recipe. Do you use coconut oil, Brain Octane or another MCT? Salted or unsalted butter?
Reading about Brain Octane it says since it is pure the hunger suppression is a lot longer and mental clarity is higher. |

Usually recommended to use unsalted, organic butter. I use 1 tsp butter, 1 tsp coconut oil, 1 tsp cream from canned coconut milk, sometimes a touch of cocoa powder and 3-4 drops of stevia for a changeup.

I just buy jars of coconut oil from Kroger. I melt it and the butter in an old whiskey glass in the microwave then pour it in with the other stuff.

Never tried the special coffee, I just drink mine black with a squirt of liquid sucralose. I can see the benefit of mixing in some MCT's with it though since your body pretty much has no use for them other than to burn for energy I can see how it would go great with a morning coffee to give you a kick in the pants. I might try that for a pre-workout actually.

You can find it for half that price on Amazon. I pay about $25 for a quart of MCT oil there. It lasts me 4-6 weeks. Watch the levels in it when you buy, not all are equal. Presently using some stuff from "Left Coast" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

Man, I set up my goals at 1660 calories and I was fairly short on it today without feeling hungry for more than about an hour before lunch.

Yesterday's weight was down to 170.6 and today's is down to 168.4. That is a total of 4.4 lbs in 2 days, which is pretty normal from what I hear. It is primarily water weight, but I can notice a small difference in appearance already. (The small little "hangover" above my belt is a little firmer) I would equate it with reduction in bloating.
Yesterday, I only had 1,311 of my 1,660 budgeted calories, and hunger was not an issue. This is non-typical for me, as a typical 1,660 calorie diet leaves me hungry for at least a couple hours before each meal. I had 22g of gross carbs, but a good bit of that was offset with the amount of fiber in those foods (10g) so my net was about 12g. I tested positive for moderate ketosis yesterday at mid day, so that didn't take long. ![]() I doubt it was Keto related, but I slept horribly last night. Tossed and turned until about 0300 before getting to sleep and then a 0640 alarm. This isn't too unusual with my job... sleeping in a different time zone 20+ times a month on both AM and PM schedules kinda knocks out your circadian rhythm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You can order them off Amazon, they are cheap. The strips I order are $8 shipped for 100 IIRC.

I started this diet 2.5 weeks ago and am already down 12 pounds. I also havent drastically reduced my caloric intake to do so.
I did it to try an alternative fuel source for distance running. I dont run for speed, so the supposed lack of performance in activities of less than 1 hour does not matter to me. If I do wish to do high intensity workout, I simply take in some carbs around that activity. The lack of hunger and consistent energy level have been AWESOME. |

Okay, this recipe is absolute amazing. My wife says I'm biased because I always like when mushrooms are in a recipe. But, it is creamy bacon, mushroom, Italian chicken...
2-3 minutes per side in a hot cast iron with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. After both sides have had their 2-3 min, drop the skillet in a 350°-375° oven for 20 minutes or until cooked through. ![]() Remove the chicken from the pan, and set aside. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and cook the sliced mushrooms until soft. Then add previously cooked and cut bacon, a cup of heavy cream, and thyme, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. ![]() Bring to a simmer until sauce has thickened and then add the chicken back in and cook for another few minutes. ![]() We did it with some roasted cauliflower and it was awesome. ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My main thing was if I did not take a multivitamin I'll get cramps sometimes. Pickle juice is your friend. You can definitely get dehydrated on diet. I am at 195 and maintaining.

I drink copious amounts of water regardless of diet, so that's not an issue I have. Typically 50%-100% over the "recommended" amount. I am taking a multivitamin, and using extra salt to account for the flushing of salts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Week 1 is done, and I am down 7.6 lbs and feel great so far. I haven't had any symptoms of the so-called Keto Flu. I don't feel hungry throughout the day, and haven't had any cravings for carbs or sugar. In fact, I have kind of found it hard to eat my full calorie goal each day because I really haven't been that hungry. I feel I could easily take 300-400 calories out of my diet, which is already at a deficit, and not really notice.

Been lurking on this thread. Original Atkins has always worked for me as long as I can stay on it. 8 days in now and I swear I want a beer so bad I can smell it all the way out in the garage fridge. Sticks are now purple, breath stinks and I felt like the smelly kid from Peanuts walking around the gym today but I'm down a few pounds already.

I noticed someone mentioned not sleeping well at night. Same thing happens to me anytime i cycle a few months of a keto diet. This drives me nuts after a week of it. Also a tip for anyone that ends up missing some kind of flour product, if you have any kind of ethnic food store, get chickpea flour. Just a ground legume flour (from chickpeas/garbanzo beans) but its great. Coat onions/pickles in it, and fry away!

I have been doing E meals for awhile. my problem was I would not stick to the meal plan. My mother in law came down and cooked from the menu and my sugar has been great! ( I am Diabetic). Since then I have stuck the their LC ( low carb, basically NO carb) meal plan. I feel better the Lbs are coming off slow. the weight loss is not my primary focus it is my blood sugar. I was craving carbs all the time, now no more, I feel better eating great food! I am a believer for sure. I check my BS this morning and at 79 THAT HAS NEVER been the norm! the E meals gives you a menu, shopping list from the store you shop at. Some of the meals seem really weird, but they are all pretty dang good. and they are constantly different. I have not eaten the same thing off of this menu for years. You get a months membership for I think 10 bucks. Well worth the investment.

So can this work for a very simple guy that basically eats meat, potatos and a vegetable? I don't like a lot of "food", very basic in my tastes, no sauces, no condiments, no salad dressings, no gravys' etc.
Is there a "simple" basic meal plan available? |

Just google "keto meal plans"-"lchf meal plans", you'll get more to read than you ever wanted to see or read. You shouldn't have to much trouble finding one you can live with.

The basic idea is to eat more fat in place of carbs, especially starchy carbs like potato/grains. Don't do a 1:1 replacement though.

My strips have been purple all week but something is making me hold water. Sausage fingers and that means the scale ain't moving down. Ugh.
Buying any lunch meats or sausage uncured and trying to not go overboard on cheese. Guzzling water too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by TexaRican; 03-30-2017 at 10:43 PM. |
