Anyone made the switch back to multi pin from single pin

I'm playing with the idea of switching to a single pin sight. There sure does seem to be a lot of people who have made the switch and decide never to go back.

Well, with money as tight as it is, switching to a new sight isn't something that I want to do flippantly. I'm wondering, has anyone ever switched back to multi pin after shooting a single pin sight? If so, why?

I shot a single pin for years and picked up a new to me bow a year or so back with multiple pin sight and tried to use it for a while and ended up taking it off and going back to single pin. Can't imagine I'll ever go back to multi pin.

4th season with single pin. Have no desire to go back. I have shot several friends new boys with multi pins, not near as comfortable. I don't see myself going back

I made the switch to a single pin sight about 4 years ago. I don't think i could ever go back to a multi pin. The better field of view and less concentration on which pin to use, makes a single pin much better imo.

Been shooting a single pin for a couple years now. Best move I ever made. It just makes shooting so much easier for me not having to jack with anchoring my sight housing then picking a pin.

Wow, it's pretty amazing that this many of you are this sold out.

A couple of follow up questions: 1) Are you primarily whitetail/hog hunters year-to-year? 2) Do you regularly hunt whitetail from tree stands?

Don't get me wrong, if I could hunt elk everyday, then I would. But they don't stomp around my back yard.

I go back and forth between fixed and sliders. The last couple years I have been shooting Hogg fathers with either 3 or 4 pins. I use the 4 pins out west. Gives me fixed pins to 50 yds and I can dial to the yard to about 110-120 yds. It's the best of both worlds for me. I think single pins are better suited for deer hunting and stands but that is my opinion.

Yes to the first, no to the second. Most of my hunting is from an elevated ground blind 4' high. But, I have also spot and stalked whitetail with my trophy ridge react one. Wasn't very hard to adjust on the fly, and I can also just set the pin at 30 and know where to aim from 40 on in. It may seem a bit rushed when you're stalking, but it really hasn't given me any reason to switch to a multi pin in any configuration.

I went this route with Hogg Father. Gives you abilities single pin just can't especially elk hunting!

I bought a single pin and never put it on. Having to get a sticker made etc made me not do it. I was always curious about using a single pin during the rut when bucks come and go fast. To me it seems faster to range a few trees and get an idea of yardage and throw the bow up rather than do the sAme thing and remember to adjust the site. I really want to switch but im pretty fond of my IQ at the moment

Set my single pin at 20 yards, haven't had to move it. So much less complicated.

Almost all my hunting is from stands with most shots under 30 yards. I've been shooting single pin sights for the last 10 years and won't go back to multi pins. If I did a lot of stalking like I did when I was younger I would use a multi pin sight.

I don't even use multi pins for stalking or long range. I've been shooting single so long it's all second nature with a single and multi' just are clutter to me.

Ive been shooting single pin since the 90s. Can't se a good reason to ever go to multi pin.

With the speed of todays bows, you can set it at 25 and drop it in the kill zone out to about 35.

I used an HHA slider for quite a while and liked it. However, I always felt as if I was remarking my distances for some reason?

I hunt from the ground for the most part felt that having to add an additional step was a greater risk of losing my chance at the shot.

I went back to a 5 multi pin black gold and am happy I did.

Again the additional step in adjusting distance wasnt what I was looking to do. However, some say they feel confident enough in the distances, so if they have set their slider at 30 they know where to aim for twenty and 40 depending? I got fairly comfortable at this with targets but didnt like the idea for hunting game.

I do like the openness of a single pin and having one pin to aim.

What it comes down to is confidence and hunting style!!! That to me would be the difference.

If I was a tree stand hunter I would probably do a single pin/slider.

But for everyting else I like a multi pin so I just aim the appropriate pin and shoot. I have mine set at 20 to 60 but would prob never take something beyond 40. So have even thought about just lowering the pins out of the way during hunting season.

Thats a really long opinion and hope it at least is honest in helping you make a choice.

You may be right, I just couldn't ever get comfortable with moving the pin every shot and being confident it's in the right spot. Really it wasn't the sight that was bad it was mainly me, I couldn't ever get the sight tape done exact, so it was always a little off. I did like it on those 60-70 yd shots though.

What ever works best for you.. Been bow hunting now for 29 years. I like a basic 3 pin site. I have used the single pin, always thinking I will forget to adjust the site. But then I hunted N Az and shots range from 20-60 yards . But that may change with my new Hoyt carbon turbo.. Not sure yet.

If you switch to single pin, I will bet that you will love it. Spot and stalking if you don't know the distances right away can take some practice if your animals are moving a lot. But I love my HHA and wouldn't go to Multi again.

Love single when 3-d shooting. Not for hunting. Multiple pin slider. Last thing I wanna do is adjust a 20yd to 40 when game is right there. Seconds matter at times.

I tried a single pin a couple of times but never felt comfortable with it. I tried in at shooting 3D and soon took it off and my score improved considerably. Like Ragin said, what works for you may not work for me.

main pin set to 20

bottom pin ends up at about 38 yards (on my 70 lb switchback).

i can really easily shoot 30 by aiming between the two or 40 by aiming just under the bottom pin slightly.

all of that without touching the dial

practice has been going well. hope my hunts go equally as well for accuracy

I love my react trio. Seems like the best of both worlds and I only use two pins out to 120 yards.

It honestly depends on your pocket book. If you aren't worried about dropping some serious dough, get a Hogg father. If that is too much, you can try the trophy ridge react one. If that is still too much, give HHA a look. If that doesn't fit the budget, look at the truglo Range Rover.


Each of these is a pretty good representative of it's price range (IMO). I started with a trophy ridge pursuit, and while it worked, I like the design of the Range Rover a bit more for the price range. My favorite of all is the spott Hogg Hogg father, but that is just too much $$$ for me, so I will stick with my TR react one.

I had a trophy Ridge React one up til yesterday. Used it in Colorado last month chasing elk. I kept wondering what would happen if I had ranged the animal, it spooked, and then gave me another opportunity.

While that never happened in Colorado, it did happen yesterday. Had a doe at 35, she spooked when I drew and ran to about 45, then stopped and looked. I guess I could have held higher and shot, but I'm shooting a pretty heavy arrow. Nevertheless, that doe is still alive, and I went back to Cabela's and swapped it out for the Trophy Ridge React 5 pin model.

The only real downside to the Trophy Ridge React one, if you're looking at it, is the sight quiver bracket absolutely sucks. It puts your quiver about 4 inches out from your bow. A Tightspot Quiver won't work with that sight unless you get a riser mounted quiver bracket. Plus, if you're looking at single pins, a MBG is cheaper and the warranty is better!

my thoughts exactly. I use a single pin for 3D and whitetail hunting. Would probably use a single pin for pronghorn where shots were long range. But for elk and mule deer I switched back to a multi pin. Adjusting while an elk is coming in or a mule deer buck is trotting through the trees doesnt work for me.

This is the sight I am currently shooting, for the reasons stated. I dont have any plans to switch.

Seems to me that it would depend on your style hunting. I tree stand hunt in the east and a deer can step in, then out in a second. I do not have time to adjust the single pin.
Furthermore, I have a friend on here that is a semi-pro and very good shooter and hunter. He has a single pin and was trying to sell me on the ease of use, etc last week. This weekend some things in the forest happened fast and he didn't get time to react and missed the shot. I am sure he is still sold on single pin, but not for me.

Im on the same page about having to take the extra step. You already have enough on your mind as is in that situation. Really would be an issue for me because of video camera also. Just me personally my bow shoots pretty quick so I only use two pins and drop the last one all the way to the bottom out of the way. I also don't like to shoot at a deer over 40 Yards not because I cant shoot it but your margin for error greatly increases. That's just personal preference though if something is working good for you don't change just because everyone else is doing it just my opinion

Sliding my pin up and down is second nature, and I don't even think about it. We have targets set from 30 to 60 yards at our office and when Im practicing, I try to shoot different targets each shot so I'm always moving my pin. It's pretty much muscle memory now. Been using a single pine for I don't know how long now, and I'll never go back to multi pin.

i finished setting up my tommy hogg correctly and now feel comfortable shooting at a hog from 50-60 yards.

this last weekend, just for grins (after getting the tommy hoff dialed in at 60) i took an 80 yard shot. right in the center of the target, prolly 6 inches high. i was pleased.

then i went for a 100 yards. it took me 6 tries to hit the target. had to deal with a crosswind too. finally hit it.

tommy hogg = AMAZING !!!

I've had the G5 Optix 2 pin for a long time now. It's a double pin, but pretty much a single pin, with an additional "adjust on the fly" pin by turning a dial, which is self marked after zero'ing in at different yardages . I can wheel it all the way out of sight when not needed. It's a good little addition to a single pin, when you want to leap out at long shots on targets, pigs, and so on.
