Well talked to someone in the know this weekend about this hunt and while he said "you didn't hear this from me" he explained there were some pretty influential persons drawn for this hunt that were not happy how things went down. That stuff was gonna change on how this unit is run in the future whatever that means.

As a coach, I thought my profession was the only one with "armchair" quarterbacks.......... guess I was wrong.

I don't understand how they will handle things differently. Nothing can be done about a river flooding. I believe that I am correct when I say that any cancelled state draw hunt is handled the same way, reimbursement of fee and preference points. The next year a new drawing takes place. What is there to change?

I'm suspecting they're wanting the drawn hunters postponed until next years hunt instead of cancelled since it take so long to draw now usually. I'm sure there were a few guys drawn with only 1 or 2 points but there were several that have been waiting 10 years to draw, although it could be some of the adults on the cancelled youth hunt causing the fuss.

My sons were drawn for youth hunts there several years ago, were drawn 3 or 4 times, they each got their first deer there. Lots of nice bucks in there, especially on the North side along the pipeline.
Yeah, most of it is bottom land, its going to flood, you can see the water line on all the trees down in there. We were always treated well while there and the managers were very informative but didn't put up with any foolishness.
Always a lot of standby hunters during the check-in though.

I think if you deferred the hunters from a cancelled hunt to the next years hunt you would have a lot of no shows . Things can change a lot for people over a years time. On the other hand, I would make myself available for the hunt as I have been applying several years.

It is what it is. The river has been flooding for a long time. There may only be about 200ac that don't flood on this WMA when the Trinity comes out.

Nobody can control mother nature. I would be shocked if anything changes. Everyone is always *issed off when it gets cancelled. Good luck next year on the draw!!

The one thing they could do is reschedule instead of cancel the hunt but then some of the hunters would not be happy with that either because of time off or prior commitments.

Dang that is rough. With all the rain today no way they could have it and you would not want to be there in the black gumbo and water.

That's too bad. I wanted that draw this year. We've hunted west of there. The birds just aren't down yet in numbers. With a good solid freeze in Neb and Kan and a solid front we should start seeing birds. I predict Dec 18 or so.

I got drawn for the last weekend of the season. Hoping we get some more birds down but with how much water is everywhere right now they are very spread out anyways.

Do they actually ever check if you drew waterfowl out there?

Probably not real necessary. If you draw, you then draw a compartment to yourself. I'm sure that someone that was drawn would not be happy about sharing it with someone that just showed up and would likely get the game warden involved. They also lock the gate and only drawn hunters get the combo.

It used to be a mad dash to the best duck spots, no compartments involved, maybe its changed.

Waterfowl at RCWMA is all drawn now and you have to be at the orientation the Friday afternoon of the hunt.

Some buddies and I drew it for opening weekend this season and got limits on redheads, ringneck and teal. Our compartment was covered in gadwall, just on the other side from where we set up.

Those are the adult/youth hunts. You have to have a youth with you.

This is false information and a great way to get some one a ticket. The ONLY APHP duck hunting on the RCWMA North Unit is through Youth/Adult and Youth dates in the book

Check again, the WMA north unit is not closed on those dates and it states specifically in the APH booklet on the not closed dates-->>> Waterfowl: shooting hours - one half hour before sunrise until noon. Hunter access begins at 5:00 a.m. No motorized vessels allowed.

Wrong again buckaroo. Just because the WMA is open doesnít mean there is an open season.

The only open dates for waterfowl general APHP are early teal/goose.

Youíve got to be kidding me. Nowhere on the page does it say that APHP waterfowl hunting is allowed on the dates the WMA is open but there arenít youth hunts going on. Itís pretty clear that the only open general APHP waterfowl dates are the dates listed (early teal/goose).

If APHP waterfowl was allowed the dates would be listed during that time just like it is in every other category.

They are finishing up with the epostcard hunts and will be open to permit holder hunting soon. I would have to look at the book to be sure of the date.

WMA should be good this weekend for the 19-21 hunt, the ducks getting pushed down good in our area with the cold. December at the WMA wasn't what it usually is for waterfowl.

Good luck to y'all. Our waterfowl got canceled due to the flood.

A comment was made earlier in the thread about if a hunt gets canceled (obviously not for e-postcard), you get refunded your points? Could not find that on the drawn hunt FAQ or after digging a bit on their website. Just curious

They gave me my points back for the cancelled deer hunt there this year. If your points have not been restored you need to call Austin, there have been a few on here in the past that said they had to do that to get their points back.
