Default Is it safe to travel into Mexico + White?

My wife purchased tickets for her and our kids to go into Mexico City for a family wedding in Feb. I told her hold off on mine until I figured out its safe for a white person to travel to the non-touristy interior of Mexico. My initial gut is this is not going to be safe, especially following some midterm shakeups. Do any of you have any CURRENT experience traveling through the interior of Mexico? Is it safe?

If I went I would definitely limit my exposure to street daytime only, night only with a local .
Last time I was in MXC I saw a stabbing in the street, and when I went to cueranavaca they had a kidnapped guys ear found laying on a table of a restaurant we were eat at
If that kinda stuff makes you uncomfortable??

We have a wedding down there next week as well. There is always the “gringos are safer” mindset. Don’t misbehave and try to score stuff you will be fine. My girlfriend is from there and 50 percent of family still there so its apples and oranges. Im not going to a wedding during cotton season. She either drives or flies everywhere. You should probably go

I assume some of the family lives there? If so then then they will know the routine. If not then itís a stupid place to plan a wedding in current timesÖTravel during the day and in a group, no fancy jewelry or clothing and get to where you are going and stay there. I would probably just decline and spend a little more on a nice gift.

I don’t understand why all the young kids want to get married in Mexico. It annoys me but nobody cares what Im thinking. Mexico is for hunting, farming, or retirement just my personal feelings about it. If it takes you too far from your comfort zone then Why do it?

It's as safe as the streets of Houston or Dallas if you mind your own business. Don't be dumb while there and all will be fine.

Some decent advice already given. If your wife’s family lives in the area where the wedding is to take place they will or are the ones that will know. Again, if your wife has relatives that live there that she knows well and trusts their opinion, that’s what you should consider in making the decision.

Can some random violence happen while you are there? Sure can, but that can happen here in the US. Big difference is here you can carry and protect yourself.

From most of what I have read, it is the opposite of the States. Rural ares in Mexico are far more dangerous than urban areas.

No one has problems till they do and then it begins…….if the risk is acceptable go if not don’t. The risk of traveling into parts of Houston are highly risky so I don’t or drive around if possible, getting gas these days is risky. Be prepared and make sound decisions.

itís not safe especially for white folks.

I have not been there for 2 years but when I went down there to our ofc the local employees would not let me go anywhere by myself. There were too many white folks being kidnapped. I walked around 6 blocks to our ofc the first trip down and they freaked out, I did have a group of teens that followed me the last 2 blocks and then broke off when I met up with a local coworker outside the building.

I have some Mexican friends that have family down there, they go down a few times a year. You should see the clothes they wear to go down there. They look border line homeless.

If it was me, don't go and don't let your family go.

Article today said the locals in Mexico City are revolting against outsiders coming in to the city. Posters have been placed around the city telling non locals to leave or siffer the consequences, whatever that means.

Evidently it is a lot of California people coming in and the locals do not like it due to the sheer numbers and the fact that English is becoming the prominent language. Leave it up to Cali liberals to screw things up!

I will see if i can find the source of the article.

Well I work for a global company. Mexico city is one of the places we have an office. My counter part always invites me.

I'll ask him tomorrow, but based on past conversations its ok to travel there.

With that said, I'll tell you he does not like traveling by car to our other location in Monteria, nor does he enjoy traveling to get to Laredo TX. He likes to do his Christmas shopping in Laredo.

What he has told me is that when driving on the open road from city to city, you need your head on a swivel. Its sad Mexico doesn't recognize it needs a 2nd Amendment to protect its citizens.

My girlfriend is in Reynosa right now, I myself can get paranoid in that town. She is getting her paperwork renewed on her “low profile car” . The girls are driving with my son in law to Monterrey then catching a plane. If I told her not to go she wouldn’t even slow down loading her outfits in her suitcase.Last weekend I invited my Ag spray pilot who is my neighbor to go look at deer and he said “hell no!” So....”you jump over wires all day long, sun up sun down, and your scared of dying in Mex?”

I know an old lady from Kennard. Her family runs an orphanage out of Mexico city. She has spent her life working crazy hard an buying things to take down there along with whatever cash she can . Just any kind of children's clothing donated as well. My family has helped her financially for years.

Last year she drove a load of cloths down in her Toyota truck with camper shell. The cartels took her truck and she had a hard time getting home.

This year, she took a load down in her husband's Chevy truck. Cartels took the truck again. One of the workers husband told her he could get the truck back for 1000 dollars.

It was parked at the orphanage the next morning. He was in the back dead. She is planning another trip.

Mexicans ain't even safe in Mexico. They hate it there. That's why they're all coming up here. Mexico is a crap hole. A nice place scenery wise and all that? Sure, but aside from that.....no. We all need to stay on our side of the fence. A lot less problems that way.

I was in Ensenada for business 2 weeks ago, 1 was shot leaving the eatery and 2 floated up on the beach, mostly Sinola Cartel.... all seem to be specific target events but not a risk i want to take.
