I like to get where I'm going, so usually I find myself going a little bit over the limit on an open highway. I've lived in the city full of bad drivers called Houston ever since I got my license. You learn pretty quick to speed or get run over. Gotta love going 80 in a 65 and some jack wagon just HAS to ride your bumper...Speed all you want, go the speed limit, who cares, just don't drive like an azz.

I’m never late…..unless my wife and kids are traveling with me. With speed limits at 70-80 I don’t speed any more.
They even did a study of the fire service and pretty much decided that we save no real time by using lights and sirens. At the moment we still do but they said at some point we won’t.

I’ve been curious about this as well. Me personally I don’t speed, typically drive around 70, even if 75 is speed limit due to better fuel mileage. On a 100mile trip the difference between averaging 70mph vs 80mph is only 10min. Just my POV.

I was in Arkansas last week and those 55 signs are everywhere and people actually abide by it. it was really way to slow

A vehicle is nothing more than a means to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. Speed limits are only to collect revenue. I too was stationed at Ft. Hood, but before Ft. Hood I was stationed in Germany. And the Germans have the autobahn with NO SPEED LIMITS. They manage it very well. It can be done.

You would think in the Land of the free we would have had Autobahn's before a dictator/socialist country would.......

Many years ago, when my daughter was a teenager we were driving down the road. My daughter looked up at me and said, doesn't that sign say the speed limit is 55? I told her yes, and she then asked me, why are you driving 65? I had no answer!

Speaking of....when I learned to drive and sped the most was when long drives were 55 mph (waaaay to slow) and maybe 65 as I got into college. I remember thinking 70-75 was fast enough. Now that most highway speeds are 70-75, I'm right where I was comfortable anyway. That probably has a lot to do with what I consider speeding or at my max.

The Austin tollway is at least 80 and when I'm down that way, I find myself in the 75-80 range max even though I could be rolling 84-85 or so without fear of a ticket. I get passed all the time like I'm standing still doing 75 on I-20

Usually because I have a long way to go and a short time to get there...

About 4 months back, my truck developed a vibration. I noticed it would start doing 70 or more.
Now I just travel around 65 and all is good!!!

Plus driving my 01 F350 older vehicle for almost 20 years, I just developed a habit of not overworking the motor and all the parts. I carried that over to my new truck and don't speed heavily. I guess I'm in the beginning stages of GOF-dom..
You’re going to make a great GOF someday. I hope to be around to see it. Hell you might even get elected Head GOF…if Randy ever steps down.

It’s funny you mention that. Had a DPS officer tell once, “ You ever top a hill and see that cop sitting on the side of the road and you slam on your brakes? You think you got away with it? Nope, I got ya but when I see the sparks coming off your front bumper I know you’re paying attention. I’m not worried about you. Now that SOB that flys past me and doesn’t even see me, that’s the guy I want because he’s dangerous.”
