Best Route to Take - San Antonio north to SW OK

Got a road trip coming up this week and just curious on the best route to take as this is unfamiliar territory for me. Leaving San Antonio and headed north to around the Altus, OK area. I can go north on 87 to Fredricksburg, Mason, Brady to Abilene or the other option would be I-10 to 83N to Junction, Menard, Edin, Abiline route. Once I get to Abilene, its a straight shot north. It may be 6 of one, half dozen of another but wasn't sure if there was any construction, better roads, etc. Thanks!!

I go that way often from Kerrville and I go up thru Brady and Breckenridge and then hit Hwy 16 up to Wichita Falls.

I’d get to Brady, and take 283 up to Throckmorton, or wherever it turns into 183. It definitely won’t be the fastest, but I like that drive, especially Seymour to Vernon going through the Waggoner.

You can take 281 all the way to Wichita Falls.

281 is most expedient, but I’d prefer the 87 to eden and then up 83 personally.

And we’ve driven it a bunch!

                    I-10 -83 to Abilene 283 to ok

87 is 15 minutes faster depending on traffic & construction

Fastest route is I-10 to 87. It will take you longer on 281 to get out of Bear county than it will take on I-10 to get to junction. There ain't no stop lights on I-10 !!! 281 has one every 1/4 mile, along with all the construction.

Another option if you just want highway driving is 35 straight up all the way and when it splits stay on 35E

SouthWEST oklahoma. 35 should not be a part of the equation.
