Do most of you using these to build feed pens actually utilize the tool they sell that tightens and clips the tie? Or simply make do with pliers and side cutters?

I have had trouble getting them as tight as I want with just pliers but I cant figure out which tool would be the best for the money especially since its something I don't use often.

The tool makes it very easy and gets it tighter than pliers can. I use these steel zip ties and the tool in my daily job. They are very strong and dependable. If you’re not going to be installing a lot of them you can get by with pliers. Just know there’s a specific tool for a reason.

Do you have a link to the tool? I bought some of these but have not used them yet.
Those are similar to the zip guns we used back when I was in mfg jerp...you could adjust the tension before it cut the tie to the wires / cables. Pretty slick.
These metal ties won't be high volume use in my case so I went with the cheapie.
I bought the zip ties and related tool for my husband when the thread was first posted back in December. He uses the zip ties for just about everything but, even though he has the tool, he tends to use the pliers and cutters more because they are usually what he already has in his hand, or even a pocket.
Just got some for building crappie brushpiles at the lake, I think they'll work better than the heavy duty plastic ones I have been using to zip tie the branches together and to the cinderblocks. Thank you sir
