    Extension cord and generator advise

Have a 5500 generator for deer camp. Worst case scenario (freezing temps) I’d like to run a 1,500 watt electric heater and 100 watt LED light with it. Want it far away from the tent due to the noise. Would a 200’ extension cord be safe to run this heater and light combo? Cheaper to buy or make your own extension cord that long?

Not much on electricity so knowledgeable input would be appreciated. Thanks!

It going to have to be a really heavy gauge chord

Would need to upside the conductor size for a 200' run... You would need to carry 14 amps 200'

      I'd use #10 extension cord

Would it be cheaper to just make one?

You can use a 55 gallon drum to suppress the exhaust. Just make sure the holes in the drum are at least the same area as the exhaust going in

The generator is larger than that.

                    Get a smaller heater 1000 w or 750 watt.

Most of the heaters sold locally are 1500 watt.

I got a 750 watt heater on the internet and it does a fine job running off of my little EU 1000 Honda generator and produces a good amount of heat

                      So if I make a 10g 200’ cord I can run the 1500w heater?

Build a generator 'house'. Not that big of a deal and will help drastically with noise and help keep your generator out of the weather

This and it will be cheaper than a 200 ft. 10ga. ext. cord.

Heck, be easier to just go by a little 2000w Predator Inverter for Harbor Freight. You can’t hardly hear them, are very reliable, and you don’t have to mess with a long azz cord.
