    Gas struts for cabinet doors

I have this TV cabinet on my back patio. Currently I’m using screen door latches to keep them open when it’s windy but as I get older I ain’t gonna want to climb up there and latch them. So I was thinking of installing some gas struts to hold them open.

How do you figure out what length is needed and where the best placement for them on the doors would be? And where and I find them along with the needed hardware?

They can be had on Amazon.

As far as location/alignment...you need a tape, a pencil, several beers, and something to throw.

Could you install different hinges that are stiffer? Our soft close hinges are pretty tight.

Not the cheapest place to buy them, but McMaster.com has everything you need plus some explanation on how to size them properly.

Your hinges probably open a bit wide for these, but look into Sugastune brand lid stays for bench lids and you’ll find something that will work. Just keep in mind they are designed more for vertical lid applications in conjunction with 110-120 degree hinge swing.
