I like George Strait as well, but those stats don't make him "better". I don't think GS has ever written any of his hits. Jones certainly didn't write most of his, but he did some.

Strait is in the top 15 of most records sold. Jones doesn’t make the top 100.
Obviously some think Strait is “better”.

Definitely like Merle better but that era of country music was the real deal, not like the bubble gum ripped out skinny jeans people we see today.

Honestly for me it’s a tossup between George Jones, Meryl, and Waylon...I ain’t gonna get into the sales debate, cause it was a complete different day and age when most of my idea of real music was at the peak. Different strokes for different folks

30 years between the prime of their careers, technology & the availability of purchase methods might have something to do with it.
