Barrel Nut Sizes

Is there such a thing as different size barrel nuts? I have a standard tapco and started grinding in it and it refuses to fit over the barrel nut I have on my ar? any advice? thanks
I know it is a midwest industries handguard

I think all the inside threads would be standard but must companies use their own hand guard attachment method and different outside diameters.
