Pretty much in Texas if it is decently long and skinny, probably don't have to worry about it. Copperheads & Cottonmouths stay short n fat, and if you can't ID a rattler well maybe we need some better contacts lol. Coral snakes can be tricky at a glance, but they're so small ya typically don't have to worry about em

OP, I don't blame you really if it invaded your space and made you wet your pants. Just learn a little from it so maybe next time, you can just run it back in the brush or under the house instead of puttin' a serious can of whup-arse on him...
I seriously did one in myself this Spring... was weedeating around a pasture fenceline next to the barn... sucker came out the grass, head up coming right at me... That weedeater just reacted when instincts kicked in... He was cut into little pieces before I really ever thought about it! Kind'a felt bad afterwards, but DANG!!
