Not trying to be a @$$, but I'm just seeing a disaster there.
This is just a drainage creek, not a real tributary creek or river. Prob the worst flooding ever in the area was about 3 yrs ago and I don't think it got outside the banks there. It's also about 5' above crest. The beginning of this drainage starts prob only about 1/2 mile "upstream" so really don't think it will be an issue. I did do a little homework on it but thanks for your concern.

Rest of the family came out yesterday evening in time to do a little fishing and cook some hot dogs.
Water is still pretty murky from the recent rain so they didn't bite good but first cast my middle daughter landed the only fish of the evening. Prob 2.5-3# that's a pretty big one for our tank. Need to thin out a lot of the small ones and add some more bait fish this yr.

It really turned out good and really you would have a hard time building a bridge you can drive a tractor across for less than $2400. The most expensive part was the concrete footings and I think we went way over kill on it for what you actually need. That and the rental on the skytracks.

Happy to see this because I had high water concerns as well. Sounds like you did your homework.

Also interesting to see someone else leave the concrete out from under the containers because I caught flack over doing it.

Yep concrete under would be a waste. Just need to cover and openings with flashing or sheetmetal to keep vermin and snakes out.

Non-shrink grout worked great to seal the gaps between the container and concrete.

It much progress besides some tractor work. Gotten prob 4" of rain in the last month or so so everything is super green.
Decided to give the pigs a go last night but only ended up sticking a corn bandit and putting the fear of God in a second.

Also caught about a 3# bass but was only catch, water is pretty murky.

Went out and got some work done, mainly to decompress after a couple very long stressful weeks.

Plowed 2 food plots. I stopped by feedstore and picked up a few bags of spring plot mix. I may try to get back out tomorrow to plant.

Had 4" of rain in the gauge.

On another note the fishing in our tank has been poor all yr. last yr this time when we first found it you could catch as many as you wanted with a variation of different sizes and we also caught perch and bass. This yr haven't caught a single perch and you might catch one bass. Not sure what happened.
It's a really old small tank and decently shallow. Don't know if it has been dry in the last at least 10yrs.

Making some headway on the cabin build. Framing the exterior. Also hvac is roughed in and windows/doors finished.

It is super dry, as bad as Iíve seen in our area in a while.
Few deer showing up on hand corn. They arenít big fans of feeders here.

This little guy has some freaky stuff going on.

Also got a directional feeder set. My deer do better on hand corn and to some extent bucket feeders but hard to keep it fed that way. Hoping they accept this.

Thanks for the kind words, itís turning out well. Itís a little easier when you own a construction company and have skilled labor. I have done a lot my self but the framing, electric, plumbing and hvac is done by others.

The windows, doors, future deck and a lot of the finish work after drywall is done I did or will do.

Little more work today, will hang trusses and metal decking tomorrow.
Hoping next week to possibly get the interior walls insulated(if I can make up my mind on what kind of insulation), rocked and finished. Hoping after next week all that is left is to start top out of hvac, electric, plumbing, flooring cabinets and trim work.
Still got a ways to go but itís nice to get this big mountain of exterior work done.

Also dropped a water trough near camp where I set the directional feeder yesterday.
My tank still has plenty of water but because of how thick the timber is around it I bet itís a hot spot for predators.

Very hot last couple days but got the roof on so I now have some cover and shade.

Iíve been trying to set posts for the front porch but itís so dry that this normally soft clay is hard as a rock and only two holes would dig. Soaking with some water now to try and soften up

Default Turkeys

So they've actually been releasing both easterns and rios to the west of hw 19 in Anderson county as the northwest portion of Anderson county more post oak savannah as opposed to the more piny woods region a little further to the east of hw 19 in central and eastern Anderson county.

That area is believed to be were the two subspecies overlapped in range before the populations were wiped our years ago. There's similar overlapping area in the post oak savannah area in other states like OK and KS. There's been a decent and growing population of rios in parts of Navarro county for a while now, and a growing population of easterns in southeastern Anderson county along the neches.

The 3 recent stockings of birds at Gus Engling WMA an two neighboring ranches on the Anderson/Henderson county lines will bridge the gap between the two subspecies of turkey. So far there's been over 160 birds (80+ easrerns & 80 rios) released on two of those sites, and one additional ranch in the areas that was half stocked this year and should be completed this winter.

Those of you living or hunting in those areas should start seeing more and more birds in the coming years.

Actually the majority of those birds did alright..sure there were some losses, but that was expected. Thus the super stocking, to release a lot of birds so more would have the opportunity to reproduce.
