Deer were moving quite a bit at my place this weekend. The PM major for Saturday was like 14:45-17:45 and it was spot on. I saw a ton of deer or should I say does and spikes......my neighbor saw a buck mount a doe and I have a pic of a 2 1/2 year old 8 lip curling like a billy goat from last Froday morning. Iím not saying the rut is here but they are starting to get frisky. Next few weeks should be legit especially if it cools off. Also, IMO last year sucked because of all the acorns. Iím not seeing many this year and hand thrown corn seems to be working well. Good luck to all those lucky boys hunting this week!

I agree with your assessment of last year being impacted by the heavy acorn crop.

Took the day off to hunt the cooler temps and rising barometric pressure. Pull up to where I cross the creek to access my property- there is a small dam and itís conpletely flooded. No way to cross. Totally unsafe and Iím a confident wader as I fly fish a lot. Really disappointed sitting at the Choctaw sulking trying to come up with an idea on what to do. Canít go Friday or Saturday bc of work. Guess I should have checked the water levels before I drove up here. Stupid on my behalf

Monsterspike thank you for the encouragement!I brought on a new partner at the absolute wrong time of the year... he micromanages everything- now I can't take off whenever I want like I normally do this time of year lol. Check out this photo of the dam I cross to access property. Love the pogo stick idea haha I was thinking maybe something more Indiana jones like and use his whip to swing across haha. Or accelerating to 80mph and hoping for the best lol. Decided all in all it was probably best to not risk for a deer (I try and keep telling myself that anyways) . Good luck to anyone hunting this weekend! Hoping water levels drop enough for me to spend a few days starting Sunday through hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday

Heading up to the property for the first deer hunt since purchase. unfortuantley, I don’t have the luxury of cell signal up there so no chance for a live hunt. Good luck out there guys!

I had the same issue on our new place up in Haskell county so I stopped in at US Cellular in Durant (by the Walmart) and picked up a prepaid phone for $40/month. Pay for it the months we want to use it. Service is great. FYI

A quick recap for 3 days hunting. I saw a lot of deer movement - every day in spite of heavy rain on Wed, lots of deer coming to hand corn off and on all day (mostly on). I am Dad and shot the 11 yesterday late afternoon.

Thx guys...that sucker had to weigh over 200lbs, biggest body I’ve ever seen on a deer. He was after a doe and she almost ruined...came to full draw when she was directly under me. She spooked, he jumped and moved to 25 yds quartering away...he went about 200yds and I’ve never seen such a blood trail, was about 5 ft wide all the way to him. G5 Dead Meat broadheads

PS...thx for giving me some good luck NannySlayer

Congrats on an awesome buck! Was planning to head up to my lease last night but decided to hold off when that big storm blew threw - figured good chance creek may flood again. Looks like today would have been a great day to be in the deer woods! May try to head up this evening for 3 days

A decade in Pushmataha, second year without my grandfather, and first year hunting black powder. I have been using his old Thompson Center Firehawk .50 caliber, and it might just be my new favorite deer rifle. I've never been in the Three Rivers/Honobia area during this season and I know I'll be back for sure. Buck's were moving hard and I took advantage of the strong north wind on the 1st to sneak around a large clear cut where I spooked a doe and large buck out of bed. I watched them slip into the creek bottom at the base of the hill. The buck had his nose on the doe's tail the second they stood up from bed. I made the decision to hunt the clearcut that evening knowing that doe was hot and it paid off. The same buck from that afternoon came running to the smell of Tink's and presented a shot at 50 yards and the powerbelt smashed his right shoulder. He was down within 40 yards! Biggest bodied deer I've seen out here. He well exceeded the weight limit of our 150 lbs scale after he was gutted, and he had about an inch and a quarter of fat in some places.
It's sausage and jerky time

Yes, I will be at the lovely budget inn Friday through Tuesday evening! Lets definitely plan on getting together and getting a bite at the Mexican place. I basically eat there every night after hunting all day lol. Im super pumped to hunt Monday and Tuesday- the big boys will be on there feet those days with the cold temps, rut, and will watch to see what the barometric pressure is doing. Ive always killed my biggest bucks honing in on those type days. Look forward to meeting you guys next week!

here are a couple we got during black powder. Our group ended up with four does, two bucks, and a hog. We passsed countless 1-3 yr olds. we are giving the place a rest this weekend and then will be back up for rifle.

another three we are after.

Rickman's outside of Messer between Rattan and Hugo. Used to be Porter's but Shorty retired and sold the shop to one of his employees. They have done us right in the past but with the new owner we will see. Be aware that the gates and drop off freezer are locked after 10 pm and they may not take deer after the end of gun season.
