Just got back from the lease. I have seen more bucks on camera but not really seeing any signs of rutting. Guess they are going to start later this year.

I started a new thread but figured I would post here to. Needing to get a young dog on some easy tracks. If anyone gets a deer this weekend and can back out and wait for us I will track for free when you really need us.

Is it just our place or is it extremely slow this weekend? Not many deer and no rut activity. Thoughts?

Was bad slow at our place, not even any pigs came out, but there were so many people running around and shooting in the area Iím sure that slowed things down. I hate Opening day of gun season
Things are so much more peaceful during bow season.
Off to Luckenbach next week followed by a week in Oklahoma so wonít be back to the farm until thanksgiving week, guess Iíll miss the rut this year.

Not slow at my place, had 21 does and 5 bucks on the food plot or road corn Saturday morning. The bucks were running the does hard. Had 8 pigs come out, nephew and I killed 2. Evening hunt we had 16 does, 3 small bucks and a coyote come out, nephew killed the coyote. Sunday morning had 18 does and a small 4 point and 6 point pestering does, nephew shot a large boar hog eating the road corn. Neighbor had similar sightings as us, he killed 2 pigs on Saturday. I only herd 8 shots all weekend 4 from us and 2 from neighbor, usually sounds like a war around us, but was very quiet. Coming thru the pasture around 11:00 this morning we were corning the roads and one of our tame does come running towards the mule to get a handout and had a nice, heavy 16 inch, 8 point with her that would not leave. He was very nervous but did not leave his love lady. Buck came within 25 yards of the Mule, while we hand fed the doe Fritos, also her nickname. Did not go out this evening, had to take the nephew back to Royse City. Congrats on the Nice 8 point, Steve. Good luck to the rest of the Freestone area hunters.

Brother-in-law got an unusual 13pt off my place this morning. We’re still seeing rutting activity . Will post pic if I can get it to load.

We’ve seen more bucks than doe until this weekend. The bucks are moving and the does are being pushed.

I will be out this Saturday, NE wind forecasted hurts my best spot but afternoon suppose to switch to E SE, which is doable. Hopefully this changes tomorrow night.

I have an 8 and 7 both really wide bucks I'm after and a 3.5 old typical 10 with kickers that I want too pass on. I will probably see him 15 yards broadside.

Good luck to you this weekend. I'm headed down to our place near Oakwood after work today for the weekend. Hoping this cold front stirs some movement.

Its been horrible slow in Navarro the last week plus, I really figured it would get crazy this weekend with the rut approaching and this heavy cold front. Hoping it gets better this week.

Very slow at our place too. I did see some bucks still chasing and two were fighting. Looks like we are going to have to wait till mid December when things pick up a little. At least thatís the way things are in the 20 years I have been hunting there.

Bil shot a 9pt chasing a doe Saturday
Next day I saw another big buck chasing does across the pasture
Very weird year, Iíve never seen bucks chasing this late at our place
Normally the bucks have grouped back up by now.
Iím getting live pics of bucks bird dogging does at the feeders last few days.

Last year at this time I shot a 6 point and he came in grunting and following does. And year before that I shot another buck after he ran a small buck off that was chasing does and I think that one was after Christmas. The buck to doe ratio is way off for this to be happening. They need to extend doe days after thanksgiving by another week. Or let us take a does with archery equipment during rifle season.

Then them east texas boys will just shoot them with full metal jacket broadside and run a broadhead through he hole afterwards Honestly I think that area gets more doe days sooner than later with them looking like they are extending them in other counties every year. I expect navarro/freestone area to have the 23+ doe-day package from opening day of general season to the sunday after thanksgiving by 2020 or soon there after.

I just drove by 1 of my food plots and 6 does are munching away. Barely even paid attention to me. Our deer are pretty tame, neighbor feeds them twice a day in his front yard. Its nothing to see 30 plus deer waiting for a handout.

Our place this year is very weird. We are seeing hardly any deer movement at all except during the rut. We have not seen any spike deer at all. The deer we see are young eights and small fork deer. Itís like our deer left and donít understand why. We are about five miles from Richland chambers and the trinity river. We came no where close to flooding so I donít know.

Well my 8 yr old shot his first deer this evening, great way to tie up a season and end the year.
Came out about 10 minutes before the feeder threw behind a doe and disappeared very quickly and came back out after the feeder went off. He missed on the first shot but the deer didnít leave and he made a good second shot.
