          Found him!

Got there & he wasn't laying on the flat ground like I expected. Thought 'crap, if he had enough energy to go up that ridge, he may be gone'.

So up the ridge I go & didn't make it 30 yards before I see the white belly! He did make it up the ridge but no further - he was right behind another stand I have up there. He was no further than 120 yards from where I shot him.

A nice 3 1/2 year old 8 pt, will get pics uploaded if I can figure out how to. Too good to pass, but not a monster either - probably a little shy of 120".

Arrow went in a little further back than I thought but exit was about perfect. Since he lived for at least a couple hours after the shot, I expected to find a broadhead hole through the liver and offside lung.

When I field dressed him, I was surprised to find a healthy looking liver. The offside lung had been hit and when I looked closely at the other lung, I saw the the broadhead had just clipped the upper back corner.

So it was a double lung shot. I have to assume that when you hit a lung like that, it is still partially functional for a while. I'm pretty sure I've read stories of others having had the same experience - especially when talking about close shots & steep angles.

          Deer are tough, aren't they?
