Your Favorite Non Whitetail Hunt?

I am always looking for another fun hunting trip. What has been your favorite animal other than whitetail to hunt? Not for sentimental reasons, just simply a ton of fun to hunt said critter and where did you do it at?

High-quality waterfowl, quail, and pheasant hunts are hard to beat. I'm hoping to get the chance to make some out-of-state hunts in the coming seasons.

This has actually been on the brain a lot lately. A jam up waterfowl and upland combo is high on my list.

Archery antelope in Wyoming was always one of my favorites. Mule deer in Eastern Montana and Colorado were other favorites.

My favorite animal to hunt is Mule Deer followed by turkey. I'm having withdrawals this year being the first year I haven't hunted them since I can remember. As far as fun though, it's all in the eye of the hunter.

Bird hunting is across the board fun for everyone. Waterfowl and upland is hard to say which one is better. I can't decide and that's why I hunt quail, pheasants, crane, geese, etc. every year. Way too much fun to not do every year. Something about wild pheasants flushing 5-10 yards in front of you, cranes that look like pterodactyls deeking up, or a wad of 2000 geese dropping in on top of you there is nothing in this world that compares.

Who am I kidding, I love all hunting and being outdoors.

Depends on budget.. Pig killing and predator hunting is a blast and usually free but if I'm spending money it would be wild Aoudad in west Texas, mule deer in Nebraska or daytime Nilgai hunting(no thermal night hunt)..

Bowfishing is probably the most straight up fun I've had in the outdoors. Completely different than the brain work it takes hunting deer.

I enjoy hunting whitetail, but it's not anywhere close to my favorite hunt. It's just local and easy to do more often. Elk in the mountains, sheep and aoudad in rough country of West Texas or canyons in the Panhandle, axis in the rut in the Hill Country, spot and stalk mule deer (rifle or bow), pheasant and/or quail behind good dogs, waterfowl over decoys..... I like all of those more than whitetail, really.

Pronghorn and archery elk right here in Wyoming.
Pronghorn just because you will always see a bunch and pretty much choose the one you want to shoot or not.
Archery elk because hearing elk bugle makes the effort worth it whether you get a shot or not and we are blesse to be able to go buy a license OTC and be in elk country less than 1 hr from the house.

Hogs from a Helicopter. Wild Spanish Billie goats in a good hilly area, lots of fun spotting them and stalking.

I love me some Spring turkey…..but it don’t really compare to an elk. Same hunt in theory(calling, answering back and such)…..but much bigger target and excitement on an elk!!

As a younger man elk was my favorite. Whitetail is what i did most because it is here and more accessible.
Now it would take me now til elk season to get in shape for it and probably a series of injections to keep my knees going. Last time I did the mountain trip it was 2016 and I took two series to get in the work needed.
I think now spot a stalk javelina is what I'd pick.

1) Archery elk during rut
2) Stalking big mule deer with archery
3) Spring Turkey season

I like all 3 above more than whitetail hunting (Lavaca County version anyway)

What I want to add to this is like Dale

Spring Turkey when gobblers are responding to calls. I don’t mess with them in the fall…too easy.

Mule deer - spot and stalk - Okanogan National Forest - @ 7k plus elevation = 1 million acres Public Forest - the North fence line is Canada wilderness - wolves - bears - mountain goats- elk and mule deer

Spot and stalk MULE DEER in heavy timer - Alpine meadows - mountain streams - no ATVs horses and or hike only

Spot and Stalk mule deer - 1 million acre Okanogan National Forest - near Winthrop Washington. North border line is the Canada border - wolves, beer, elk, mountain goat,whitetail and turkey (lower elevations).

No ATVs or Motorized anything except for fire roads and camp sites.

Horses and or hike

I hiked - need a few weeks pre season to camp - scout and dial things in.

Season is only 2 weeks - vacation the entire period

Wall tent base camp - several in camp - bear watch for nights

Wolves howl as you sit around a campfire

Meat pole is a towering conifer where you must hang meat 15 ft up and preferably down wind from the tent and stove fire - heater at night and scent to keep bears out of the tent
