Awesome week to be a bowhunter!

I have really been hunting for blacktails hard on a new 100acre bow only property I gained access to in September (between archery and rifle season) here in Northern California and last night it came together. Made my 4th evening sit in this stand location and the 2nd time I’ve not seen anything. It is a 1.5acre chestnut grove and I have been having hundreds of pictures but only a couple during shooting light. I sat for 4hrs and climbed out of stand shortly before shooting light ended to look around. Jumped 3 does about 60 yards behind my stand that had snuck in. Started walking towards my truck when something on my left caught my eye. It was 15 yrds behind a chestnut tree and this guy was munching away. He didn’t pay much attention to me so I slipped my bow sling off and ranged him at 24yrds as he meandered and then turned broadside. Made a poor shot about 4” high but upon inspection of vitals, clipped the top of both lungs and the artery below the spine but the rage hypo did its job! Found him piled up about 75yrds away. He’s not big but it’s insanely hard hunting here and I am pumped to have him in the freezer. I also just picked up my California archery bear from last year from the taxidermist and got him put on the wall!!

Very nice! What part of NorCal? I grew up out there. Hunted my teen years outside of Burney and college years outside of Yreka.
