Any Hunts y'all are interested in, call and see if they have standbys available. I got out more than not last year. I win one hunt a year, I put it for a bunch. Went standby to kerr WMA and got picked 2 hunts in a row, 3 times in a row at Schneider park in Kerrvile. Learned about string jumping there.
The stand hunts aren't bad just be sure to bring everything you might need. Really sucks if you leave broadheads in your truck.

In the south east ,Florida, buys lands to provide for the Public ( the red blooded hard working hard playing American ) hunters. I believe this to be the most progressive method of attaining the above stated goal. Also I would like to also offer this little morsal of thought , letís make sure a working American family has access to hunt deer yíall . I mean walk in by seasonal traditional hunting. In the hill country folks complain about the netting and euthanizing of deer on mass. But they wonít allow folks to hunt deer to control them . The only driving distanced hunt for deer in Austin, is a draw system ( Post card hunts ) for deer in their PHL. Why ? Help me !
Instead of netting or trying to capture the deer we are hunting them in town. Its crossbow only, very restricted rules and hunting times, 4:30pm till dark Monday thru Thursday. 7:30 till 9:00am Tuesday and Thursday, through February. Doe only really sucks but I will take what I can get. Got a doe last week, rest of the time I spent throwing acorns or rocks at the bucks.
No limit on does, one guy killed 13 last year.

I have hunted there 2 times, one was myself, another was youth hunt for my son. I have mixed experiences. Overall, Inks Lake SP is a beautiful park. It is very joyful to watch the scenes. Park ranger was great when Chris ran the office few year ago. He did everything he could to help each hunters to be success. He knew what this program was. My very last experience, 2 years ago, changed my opinion. It was youth hunt and new park range ran the office. This guy seems not quite sure what the main purpose of this program, esp. youth hunt. He didn't listen the feedback, just put people in the blind and his job was done. I stopped to apply this hunt since then. Hope they are changed.

For the hunting, there are lots of deer in that area. And you will be assigned to a well-built blind. They may set up a feeder as well, but I would bring one or two bags of corn just in case. The spots of setup are supposedly at a good spot. But, what I found out that it might depend on when your hunt would be. My son's last hunt spot was too close to park road. It could be a good spot in early fall when most leaves were still on the trees. But, when we hunted in Dec., lots of leaves were gone. The feeder was wide open to traffic road, so deer did not show up when it was light, even we saw deer moved in the thick woods. Hunting at an assigned blind is good or bad. The good is that you literally will do nothing except to pull the trigger; the bad is that you lose the "freedom" of your hunt. It is worth to try if you are new to Texas public hunt. If the park management gets improve, it would be more better.

They need this at lake belton around Morgans point, deer are way overpopulated there and corp land doesn't allow deer hunting. There is some park land in Williamson county that has a public hunting program as well.

I'd like to see a system where private land owners are incentivized to open their land at certain times of the year to the public for fishing, hunting, and trapping. I'd like to see a significant property tax incentive or abatements given to those who allow managed public access to their land. I think that if the state offered these incentives and indemnified the property owner for the risk associated with this, then we would way more opportunities to hunt.
That program already exists. TPWD leases a lot of acreage every year for dove hunting. I would love to see it extended to other game or fish but I think it is a money issue.

Hopefully the kids will get drawn for javelina today.

I've got a few hunts that I've put in for as well. I would love to draw the bighorn sheep hunt.

So do they usually post all the winners the day after closing? I didnít get a email letting me know I won a draw and almost missed accepting it.

What I was fortunate enough to draw this year I was notified at different times. One was a couple days after the draw - Laguna Reguge Archery, one was later that evening - e-postcard. There's sure to be some additional process for certain hunts that have standby or second draws.

Travis I had this same issue however, I found out my mail server was blocking/holding my notification email back after speaking with TPWD. Being a work email our mail server black listed the email and prevented it from being deliver to my inbox.

Two things I had to do to fix it.
The first being adding TPWD_Public_Hunts@txfglss.com to my safe senders list.
The second contacting the companyís IT to have them add that email address to the safe senders list as a whole.

I think if you still are not getting notifications, use a google mail account as they are more lenient on their spam rules.

This may be a better suggestion for all.
Hope that helps.

I get the TPWD newsletters but my draw notifications were in my junk mail. We've got all but one hunt out there fir draw today. Got notified we are on second draw for Richland creek north waterfowl. Someone want to drop out to help an old guy out? I can make up all kinds of sob stories if it will help. I'm old and this might be my last hunt with my youngest. I remember all the great hunts with my dad there in the sixties when he was alive. I remember back before they impounded the lake that was our family farm of 100 years. Pick one or I can make up more
