I finished the metal on the roof but the wind picked up this afternoon and I didn't get the ridge cap on it. I need to get on it to put the ridge cap on and I was by myself and didn't want to risk it. I still have trim to put up on the roof.
I filled feeders, fed the fish, set up the scaffold and laid a little bit more stone. I'm putting up the vapor barrier one piece at a time since I can't seem to keep it attached because of the wind.
Sorry about the pic quality. The sun is really bright about the time I finish every week.

Definitely will! Been lurking on this site for years and decided to post a write-up on a water catchment we finished up last summer. Unfortunately, I never registered as a member and I'm still a few posts away from being allowed to start a new post.

Looks great.

I can't see any masonry ties, so I'm not sure if you're using them. If you're not, then I would definitely start with stone going up that high.

I am using them. There will be a lot of brick ties on this thing by the time I'm finished.

I thought about mentioning wall ties earlier, they certainly have their place. But when you use them, use the little 22ga curvey sheet metal ones, and just use them to stabilize the stone while the mortar is wet. With all those corners that close together, you'll have all the strength you need, and you want the wood structure to be able to expand and contract somewhat independently of the stone.

Some people will use the more rigid ones trying to add strength, and not leave enough room for movement. Brick, wood, stone, concrete......they all expand/contract, and move at their own pace. As much time as your mortar has to set in between, and all those corners, you should have plenty of stability with regular ties.

Are you putting weep holes around the base?

I'm using the curvy metal ones. I had a bunch left over from the shack. I'm trying to overlap the hard 90 degree corners from one side to the other. One side overlaps the other side on alternate stones. The front corners are harder but I'm overlapping where I can. I'm hoping it is strong. I've never done anything this tall before so I'm trying to go more horizontal before I put too many on top of each other and give the mortar time to set up.

Thanks for the advice and please don't be afraid to speak up. I'm far from an expert and can use all of the advice I can get.

I think about your generosity every time I walk across the stone at the shack. That will be there a long time. Maybe one day you can come hunt and see your contribution.

Still too windy to finish the roof and trim so I just laid a little more stone today. The "chop" stone takes longer to lay than cut pieces because they aren't exactly square but I like the look of it better. It was free so I can't gripe.

I would sure love to check those blinds out in person some day. I'll holler next time I get out to that country and maybe I can help fill feeders and drink a beer or 4.

I got to work a little bit today in a 40 mph wind. Man the wind sucks. It's ripping the tar paper off of the blind unless there is rock on top of it. Looking forward to next weekend since I'll have 2 days to work on it.

You just keep upping the great build job on every blind. Keep up the great work.

What is the aircraft you were flying in the video? That would be great for scouting in areas hard to get to or maybe help finding game trails. One more addition to your greatness sir.

Ha. There won't be any exterior lights on this one but I'll probably have a solar panel, battery, and regulator so I can run my Ozonics all day and charge my cell phone or anything else 12vdc. I may put an interior LED light also.

I got to work on it the last two days. I found a stone mason that is giving me his left over rock off of jobs so I have been spending a lot of hours digging through piles at jobsites but so far I haven't had to buy any stone so it's been free. Dale Moser was right about laying stone off of a scaffold. It isn't any fun.
