Default Why do we use .5 when aging deer?

Why do we say I think that deer is 3.5 or 4.5 or whatever the age is. Why not just say 3 or 4? Just curious. Im certain we all know the .5 is a given.

It's dumb. They're only X.5 during the 6th month after they were born. But they're an X year old all year.

it's to make you sound like a more knowledgeable, sophisticated hunter. I usually go with x-3/4 or 1/4 just to jack with people.

It's hilarious when someone comes on here to correct people because they did not use the .5 when guessing ages and start giving lessons on why the deer is .5.

Mainly because by the time the internet has agreed on the age of said deer, it has been about 1/2 of a year.

I usually don't say the 1/2 or .5 , usually just say 3 or 4 of 5 or so on.

hopefully people are smart enough to know what i' talking about.

People like to be exact, probably the same reason some parents tell you the age of their child in months. I had someone tell me their son was 21 months the other day.

I go through the effort of adding a “1/2” so I don’t get lectured by people who think I don’t know that deer are born n the spring.

Ask any mon how old her baby/toddler is and she will tell youth in months until he/she turns 2. Deer born in the spring are X1/2 years old during hunting season.
