Default Live(ish) DIY Flatbed Build

Finally getting rolling on my flatbed build for my pickup that I discussed in another thread. Iím going to try to keep this thread updated with progress.

Got my factory bed, bumper, and gooseneck hitch pulled off this afternoon and started drawing it up on CAD to burn out on our plasma table. Have a few dimensions that need to be changed, and need to draw up the back portion, and a couple other things.

Should hopefully get some more stuff done tomorrow.

Didnít take a ton of pictures, but got most of the parts cut out and welded out the front toolbox/fuel tank combo. It doesnít seem like I got a whole lot done, but there is a TON of welding on that box since I welded the inside and outside to ensure there arenít any leaks on the aux tank.

That’s a tall flatbed it seems. Also put a larger pipe around the filler so that when the gas comes out when it gets overfilled it goes into the bowl that surrounds the filler and then drain that to the ground. The way you have it your stuff will all covered in gas and that will suck. Unless you already have something in mind.

Looks really good!

The actual deck will be 6Ē below the sides and there will be a toolbox running down both sides, which is why the sides are tall. Definitely going to do something around that fuel fill, just havenít completely decided what to do quite yet. That box will probably mainly have chains and some other stuff that I donít use real often and donít really mind getting diesel on anyway.

This is the bed I based my design off of. More of a ďutilityĒ bed than a flatbed I guess. Lol

Been super busy with work the last few days, but still made a little progress on the bed. I got the front toolbox/fuel tank welded up to the main frame, then added the inside pieces of the side toolboxes. Also got the flat strap fender pieces rolled and tacked up to the bedsides.

Quite a bit of progress today. Got the sides put on, added the top of the side boxes, then got the diamond tread deck cut out and welded in.

I was able to get the bumper pull hitch framed out then cut and welded up the tail light panels and center panel with license plate cut out.

There will end up being a 3/16Ēx4Ē step/bumper along the bottom of the back panels, which is why the bottoms donít line up and donít look too good at the moment.

Itís a 5íx10í. Weíve had it for about four years now, and itís been used pretty heavily. Itís a good unit, but I think weíll go a different direction when we need to replace it. It would be a great table for an individual who just wants to burn out some signs, etc.; however, some parts could use some improvement for everyday/commercial use like we use it for.

I would describe it as a mid-grade table. Itís definitely much better quality than some of the ďdiyĒ type tables, but it is on the lower end of commercial type tables.
