We did not have hunting plans for today (Thanksgiving Day). Deer activity here at home has been absolutely dismal since the heavy rains in August followed up with acrornageddon. Cameras showed a few random visits in the middle of the night. Had a surprise daytime pic last week, a mature junk buck.
We have a feeder that can been seen from the house with binoculars. Same feeder can also be seen from the barn. About 11:00 this morning Nathan was at the barn washing his steer. He came back up to the house, grabbed his binocs and let me know there was a buck at the feeder and he was going to stalk him. We have a pretty good set up for this – around the back of the house, trail back behind the barn, behind a group of thick cedars, up to a Krivoman blind which blocks the view of the feeder. I have tried this stalk multiple times, but never sealed the deal. Off he went. I was able to see the entire thing play out and it was awesome. I sure wish would have filmed it. However, I didn't give him a 5% chance of getting a shot.
Buck was 6 years old and scored…I don’t know – maybe 50?
