Yeah that was rough. I’m pretty sure he broke his neck. We had the photos on trail cam. Lasted about 2 hours from when he got hung until he was dead. Sad deal.

Stress gets them pretty quick also.
We got a call one time where a yearling walked into a gated enclosure with 8 foot fence. One of those deals you see around cell towers etc. Someone had left the gates open and they were pulled inward funneling the deer inside.
Thinking it was right we caught the deer pretty quick and turned her loose. She ran all of 30 yards and fell over dead. Fortunately a wrecker driver helping took the deer and ate it

I’ve read some studies that indicate 15-25% of bucks die off every year.
The spike is obvious. The pic of. The live deer was the night before he was found dead. He was acting weird but didn’t have any evident wounds. Who knows. Maybe he was sick or just exhausted.

What are we lookin at in that first pic on that buck’s right side? Is that antler grown into a blob, or is that a foreign object, or what? Any other pics of him?

Some kind of mass that grew out of the pedicle. It’s hard. He had a normalish beam on that side but it broke off a couple months ago. It was significantly smaller than his left side. That blob is something tied to his antler growth.

That’s amazing! Love to see any other pics of him.
