I was thinking the same thing, not everyone can afford a $1,000 feeder.

I was against timed protein feeders a few years ago and wanted to do free choice. Its paying off big time late season for bucks recoveries and gives another feeder to hunt over. I do turn it down during season and back up come Jan to help the herd.

You could always have a free choice feeder and a timed feeder. Like a 1200lb free choice and 500lb free choice. Then the free choice keeps something there when the free choice dries up.

I recently bought two new 1200lb free choice feeders from Texas Hunter Products. My 16 year old son is too short to help with my old boss bucks, these new ones will be easier on me lol.
