    Poundage Question

I have always been a compound shooter and always pull 70lbs with no problem. I want to buy me a beginner Samick Sage and was wondering what poundage would be best for me. I was thinking 55lbs but wanted to ask because I have no clue since this is all new to me. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Start with a 40 pounder and master it then move up

35 or 40 at your draw length.

Thanks everyone. Can I hunt effectively with 40lb limbs?

If you can put the arrow in the right place, yes!

Just remember if you buy a 40lb bow, ifbyour draw length isn't 28", your draw weight won't be 40lbs.

Makes sense. My current draw on my compound bow is 30.5" and I shoot a release. I would assume my draw would be around 30" with a recurve bow.

Thank you all again for the info and I'm ready to get my bow and start shooting.

For what it’s worth, I have a short draw and I went with 50 lb limbs. The way My bow is designed I’m probably pulling around 46-48#. It’s not difficult at all or hard to manage.

At that weight however I’m not getting a lot of speed with a 500 grain arrow so you may be faster with less poundage

Whatever you decide it’s a whole lot of fun

Start off low, which has been previously stated. 40lb or so will do the trick.

With trad bows i draw 30”. some bows “stack” up pretty quick once you draw past 28”
Dont go over 40 lbs it is plenty to hunt with if you do your part
I have my custom bows made 50 lb @ 30” but custom bows are not starter bows simply because of the cost. Get a 40# & get good with it then go from there

Can't help you but I can say that my draw length is 29.5 and my 45# at 25" recurve is way too much for me to hold at full draw.

That's because you've got almost 60lbs on your fingers at that draw length
