    The other Traditional

I have always loved black powder rifles and have hunted on and off with one for close to 50 years. A few years ago I was able to get my hands on a .69 caliber October Country and my long time love, a .54 caliber has just been hanging over the door to my office looking pretty.
Between work and guiding fishing trips my hunting has been very little this year and I finally decided to take this week off and hunt.

I pulled the .54 down, dusted it off and went to the lease for a couple of days.
Monday I hammered a big hog, Tuesday a nice little 8 and Wednesday another 8 that was a little better.

It was nice to hang out in a tree with an old friend and let my mind clear.
I came home last night for thanksgiving and to pick up my grandson.
I plan to hunt the weekend but he will be doing all the shooting

I bought a Thompson center 50 cal Hawken a few years ago for a muledeer hunt in NM.
I really enjoy shooting that thing. Still have not killed anything with it but its fun.

That's a good looking rifle. Nothing against the in-lines, but I will stick with my side locks. Good job.

That is a great looking rifle. I've killed a pile of deer with my .54 cal Lyman Great Plains Rifle.

In my 59 years I have never been interested in BP guns until a few years ago.
I purchased a small collection of BP rifles earlier this year. This one caught my eye and I really want to get a deer with it this year. A J Garner built .45 flinter with a 42" barrel. I have several pounds of BP ready to go I just need to find the time to mess with it.
