Losing the 1st and second round picks for the next two years is what will hurt the most. They can win without their manager and GM. But the future isn't as bright and we have been raiding the farm system for the last few years in trades.

Sign stealing seems like if he can figure out opposing teams signs he is just a better coach. And they need better signs. Tell me how that is illegal.

I'm going to guess that MLB is using the Astros and the RedSox as examples to discourage any other participation. I doubt they are pretending anything.

Good riddance. Stealing signs is a part of the game, but to have a camera fixated on the catchers crotch and in real time relay them to a hitter... Clearly crosses a line. What's next, breaking into the offices to steal scouting reports??

From the ESPN article:

The league discipline is among the harshest ever delivered by a commissioner, with Luhnow and Hinch banned until the day after the final game of the 2020 World Series despite neither having involvement with the scheme -- and Hinch twice trying to damage the monitor used as a show of protest.

This story is likely to continue - from the Sports Illustrated coverage:

"the investigation, which lasted three months and included more than 70,000 e-mails and 60 interviews, said various Astros personnel told MLB investigators about eight other teams who used technology to steal signs in 2017 or 2018–such was the culture of the time."

That's not what the mob wants to hear. This was well known to be a league wide problem. The Athletic had a good article about it last year. If I remember right there was a quote from a manager stating the whole league was electronically stealing signs.

So if they had someone in the stands with binoculars it would be fine? Is the camera what makes it a no go? What if the second baseman sees the sign and signals the batter? While they attempt to make the sign discretely, it is done in view of others. Just trying to understand the situation here

Ok fair point. I feel dumb- what if we have a runner on second was where my mind is. Point being other folks can see the sign. Trying to learn the rule that was broken here.

Seems like the harsh discipline handed down by MLB is more about an attempt to keep it (sign stealing) from spinning out of control.
