Taking a break scouting. Bumped a big mountain lion- the difference is we can shoot them unlike Cali. All I saw was a tan rump and loooong tail. No picture. My hand went for XD45 - with bear loads-and not camera.

Found this- some nice white tails here. The first “docoration’ on our land. A gold miner I met on a 1860’s gold claim next to BLM land gave me a place he sees a big one day.

Gold? The creek is loaded with gold flakes on the sand.

Looking good, Bill, can’t wait to see the build/ hunting updates! My stepdaughter is RV camping in Montana now and says it’s the prettiest state she’s seen. Her pics don’t lie!

We spent Labor Day afternoon at the property, first time we were there for a sunset and took in the views. We can see 7 different mountain ranges, here’s sunset.

Foundation being dug. We did not hit the granite boulders we were fearing. I have a hunting room in the house between the garage and kitchen for out of town hunting visitors.

I got into elk yesterday where the Rubies drops down at the left side of the picture. No shots but jumped a big 8 point white tail.

Concrete is being poured tomorrow for the foundation footings. It’s really happening! I heard that a cow elk was shot with a bow 1 mile east on a block management ranch.

I made my first purchase for the Montana home, they came today from Midway USA. A pair of 8” gongs so I can use the rest of the 30 acres with my Tikka.

Just checked the weather- we’re expecting snow this weekend. It’s been 3 months since it snowed inJune.

Good news it will move elk lower, and tracks are easier to find.

I'll bet your project is going to get winter-delayed pretty soon.

I'm sorry we did not get to meet up when we were up there. My wife's brother was in from California, so when my B-in L and I weren't fishing, we were squiring family around to Yellowstone and elsewhere. We didn't even get to eat at McAllister Inn this year!

Or Stacey’s Steakhouse in Gallatin Gateway if you come up 191 from Yellowstone to Bozeman. Great food. Local Montana charm.

It was 6 months ago we left Cali for Montana. I’m amazed how much we’ve done since we got here. God is great.

On Oct 14 I can exchange my non-res hunting license for a res license.

As I was driving to do some duck and goose hunting, I had to pass the elk herd down the road from our Bozeman house.

They know they can’t be touched there.

Thanks.

After ‘losing’ the argument to keep the wall over 16’ of doors and windows in the living room for a future elk mount, the 2 triangular windows will give great views of the colors in the late afternoon clouds.

Or- maybe I can mount my pintail and 2 green wing teal ‘flying’ on the center post. I don’t have them mounted on wood, I drill a hole and put the taxidermy wire into the wall.

I can always mount an elk over the fireplace mantle.

Here’s the truss getting installed for living room. 16’ of glass below and 2 triangles of glass above. Ruby Mountains to the west. Big energy efficient built-in fireplace to heat it with all the glass. My summer hobby/ workout will be splitting firewood.

It’s looking real!!!

What kinda temp ya got this morning Bill? That looks kinda cold. Reminds me of some cold night nightmares in Ohio where it would get -10 by sunrise.

The temp is 41 now in Sheridan, high forecast today 48.

It could be -5 next week. Temps fluctuate widely, and it’s been a mild winter so-far.

It was 54 today. The ‘race’ was to get the concrete work done before too cold to set correctly. After that it’s weather, good work clothing and wanting to work in the building trades.
