I blew my suppressor off a 257 weatherby. An omega. The only thing I ended up finding was the outer tube with the serial number. Got super lucky. But it went way farther than your bosses did lol

You need a leaf rake maybe.
Easy to tell when a tine hits metal.
I've done this in shallow water to find things.
