He's trying to say they don't always determine wins and losses. Every game is different at this level. It's not as clinical as the NFL. Vast difference in schedules and competition/style in college. Sure, stats tell part of the story but can never truly be compared in the landscape of college football. They are good for water fountain fodder though!!
The fewest points allowed on defense stat is just a product of the schedule. Of those 5 teams they have collectively played 6 games, 5 teams, that are ranked.
Wisky played Michigan(not a good team)
Penn state played Iowa #23
Oregon played auburn
Ohio state has played Cinci #21
Iowa played Michigan(again not good) and Penn State
If you look at the rest of the teams on that schedule there isn't anyone that you would even think was decent. Even the aggies could win every game against the other teams these 5 have played
