    How many yards of base?

    Planning on building a 40X60 shop, how many yards of base will I need? I plan on a good slab, our place is sandy, I don't want the slab cracking anytime soon.

    I’m not help on how much you need but I just finished building a house with a shop and a driveway and I can tell you without a doubt when you start buying dirt it just disappears. I figured I was gonna need about 10 loads when I started and that would be overkill. I quit counting when it hit 20+.

      Currently, my best uneducated guess, is probably five to six 18 yard trailer loads.

        you can use an aggregate calculator if you don't have much slope. If you have some slope, as mentioned above, you will need way more than you ever imagined.

          LxWxD➗27=cy

            Length x width x depth x 1.35 divided by 27 will get you real close. Slopes won’t be included in that

                Thank you, very much, that's what I was needing.

                Yes, we have plenty of slope. The plan is to dig into the higher end of the hill and drag material down hill, to level things out before we dump any base. That's been the plan, not sure to what degree that plan will be carried out.

                  Below is for 6" thick base on 40x60 building sight.

                  40X60=2400SQFt

                  2400X.5=1200

                  1200/27=44.44 cubic yards

                    That’s compacted cy’s
                    Example for slopes.
                    If you have a 3’ fill to nothing figure 1.5’ of fill
