Default What bit/stung me?

Yesterday morning at 8 am I was just getting off work when something bit me. Now at the time I thought it was a nerve pain as it felt very similar to my nueropathy pain (a stabbing or shooting pain). But this time it was a bit different. The pain did not stop quickly. Instead it hung around for about a minute. I quickly went out to my car because I didnít want anyone thinking I was having a heart attack due to me clutching my chest. Well, over the next 15 minutes I had 4 more of these pains, then it stopped.

As the day went on I noticed that I was sore in the area of the pains and the site was tender. Last night as I was getting ready for bed I noticed a quarter size red mark. So yeah, something bit/stung me. This morning it was about the same size but it itched like crazy and had a hard spot in the center.

So now I check it and it appears to be about the size of a half dollar, it still itches, it is still tender, but now it is hot to the touch.

Iím not allergic to any bugs, and when I get stung by a wasp I get a little red mark for about half an hour and then it goes away. So what in the world was this? Spider? Scorpion?

Spider. Keep an eye on it. If it gets necrotic but continues to grow you need to go to the hospital.

I never saw what bit/stung me. I didn’t get a look at the area until over 12 hours after it happened.

Worst thing is that you didnīt saw what it was...Both spiders and scorpions leave a mark like that.

Be safe and go see a doctor, we all have different reactions to this.

If thereīs nothing better around be aware that mud is of the best healing aids specially for stings, it helps reducing inflamation and pain and we can find it almost everywhere.

Hope you get well soon brother

Due to the location, I can’t see it good enough to tell if there is one or two puncture marks.

I’m starting to have muscle aches now, so after I get off work I’m gonna go ahead and get it checked out.

I was in California for work a few weeks ago. Got bit by something on my ankle. Never saw what it was, but when I got back home, it was nasty looking and I had a fever. Went to the doc and they weren't sure if the fever was related to the bite or not but they put me on antibiotics. four days later I was at the ER with 104.3 fever. They admitted me and ran every test you could think of and I had 3 IV's going with fluids and antibiotics, but they never found the source of the fever. I spent 4 nights in the hospital. Here we are a month later and the bite is healing but still not pretty. Again, I'm not saying the bite caused my fever, but it was quite the coincidence.

It was a hornet that probably bit you. They relieve venom that causes chest pain My wife got bit by one about 6 months ago and Dr said they have venom like a snake and causes chest pain. She was freaking out since she had a pace maker put in. You'll live. Maybe.

Lots of folks dont have good luck at quick clinics for things like this. Most are a PA and not a actual physician. I would go see my primary doc.

My primary care “doc” is a PA as well. She is pretty much useless which is why I’m here.

Edit: both the doc and nurse said they did not see any puncture marks.

You waited 12 hours to look at the bite area? You never said exactly where it bit you but implied the chest area. Where were you bit?

That’s right, I did not check the area till 12 hours after it hit me 4 times. Still have no idea what it was but yes, it hit me on the far left side of my chest, almost on my left side about 3” below my arm pit.

They prescribed antibiotics. 300 mg 4 times a day for 5 days. It still itches like crazy, still have some muscle aches, but the “bite” (still don’t know what hit me so it might not have been a bite) area is not as swollen today. My wife says that it looks like the red area has expanded slightly.

This is what the nurse did. Drew a circle around the edge of the hard center area, then drew around the outside edge of the red area.

When it hit me 4 times, I thought it was an odd nerve pain. I deal with a lot of nerve pains in one of my feet quit often, and recently that nerve pain has been spreading to other areas so I thought it was just a bad nerve pain, that lasted about a minute each. That is why I didn’t check it for 12 hours.

My wife got hit by what we think was an Africanized honey bee. The red ring of the sting got about the size of a baseball and she said it itched really bad. Also, the sting area had a bad fever. She went to the doc and got antibiotics... it lasted about a week before it started to get better.

Did your tongue have any kind of weird feeling a few hours after you felt the pain?
I've been stung by a scorpion on two different occasions and each time I got a slight numbness in my tongue. Kind of weird feeling.

I’ve been hit by yellow jackets and red wasps. All that happens is a little red dot and it bothers me for about 30 minutes then it’s done and gone.

I didn’t feel anything crawling on my chest but I suppose it could have been on my shirt. Never had any tingling or numbness at all. Just got a stiff neck and my back feels like I’ve been moving sandbags all day.

I got stung by a asp once. I did not have symptoms like this. I had been cutting some brush, then carrying the brush to a brush pile. Pretty sure that's how the thing got on me. It was on the right side of my neck. I was driving over to a buddy's house. On the way over, I started to feel something was not normal. I felt like I was starting to come down with something. Then I a feeling going through my chest, that the only way I could describe it, was like a poison was flowing through my veins, through my chest. I then started to feel light headed, sweating weak. I had to pull off of the road I was not sure what was going on. I almost thought I was having a heart attack, was not really sure of the symptoms. But some of what I could remember, seemed similar. I kept going back to that feeling that a poison was flowing through my chest. After about 20 minutes, the symptoms started to go away. All of the symptoms I experienced only lasted maybe a hour and a half, then all of the symptoms were gone. After the symptoms mostly went away, I went over to my buddy's house. When he answered the door, he said there is a worm on your neck and knocked it off. I turned around and looked at what he knocked off of my neck, it was a asp. At that point, all of the symptoms I had just experienced made sense.

I never felt a sting, never felt a burning sensation, where the asp was. It was right on the artery in the right side of my neck, so the venom, most likely spread through my body quickly. I did not have any scars or marks afterwards. I just got the crap scared out of me, because of the symptoms and not knowing what was going on. I was trying to figure out how I could have been poisoned and came up with nothing, till later when I saw the asp on the ground. Not sure how those things affect other people, but those were my symptoms. If you get stung by an asp, it's not going to take off in a hurry, they don't move very fast. So if you get stung by one, it most likely will still be on you, when you realize something is wrong.
