    Outdoor Kitchen Designs

We are wanting to add a covered outdoor kitchen area by our pool It will be detached from our house. I've talked my wife into letting me have a wood burning fire place, but want I want the fire box to be high enough and big enough to cook steaks on. Have any of y'all designed and built anything like this? Please post pictures.

Real masonry fireplaces can be fickle and the number of masons that can design and build one correctly is dwindling.

I’d be more inclined to have my cooking in another area rather than incorporated into a fireplace.

I have a large masonry fireplace on mine but would not consider cooking steaks in it, and it’s built very well and drafts extremely well.

Hit up Curtintex. He had something like that without the fireplace.

Here is where I am so far...but no fireplace. I will put a smoker, Blackstone griddle, small fridge and a cabinet/bar top on this section

You going to deck that with 2x lumber?
If not it’s going to be pretty springy.

Matt, I would reconsider having too big of a firebox. We have a large one, huge, at the ranch and it doesn't draw well at all. We had to put glass doors on the front in fact to make it draw, and it is an indoor unit. You can buy prefab wood burning boxes for outdoors and that may be the way to go, and get creative on your grill top to set in it. Also, you are going to heat up a ton of stone or brick if you cook in the summer time and it will be a warm experience. Why not a fireplace and egg over a few feet away for cooking?

Yes. All 2 x 6 deck. We will add one more joist to that open end just to be sure we don't bounce. It will have a gabled, metal roof on plywood roof deck.

Thanks, I've added TV, misting fan system accent lights. Very happy I was able to complete just before lumber sky rocketed. My advice is to have fun with yalls build, take the time to do it exactly how you want the first time

I would not recommend doing a wood burner stick with a gas unit if you have to have an outdoor fireplace. Figure another means for cooking steaks etc...the drafting could be a big issue you don’t want to deal with after all said and done.
