What sort of wood is this? (Burning in fireplace)

So, our recently passed Uncle had a large stash of firewood and we went to pick it up today for the fireplace but I want to make sure it’s safe to burn first.

I don’t know if any wood is unsafe but I’ve heard that cedar and pine might leave a residue in the chimney that over time could cause a fire

Cedar will also “pop” and throw embers out of the fireplace which could easily start an unwanted fire!

Lol Pilar........I know there are some that are not good I just can’t remember in a pinch. Something about the creosote they create and whatever else.

I like finding cedar logs at the beach. Throw one on the fire, it burns hot and smells great.
                    Don’t burn treated lumber

We burn 85% cedar to 15% oak in the cabin, I am in my 50’s my uncle 70 and he said the cabin chimney has never been cleaned, lol I better tell him to find a chimney sweep quickly

Cedar and mesquite can burn too hot for some fireplaces. If its a wood stove it is safe. Some wood just burns dirty resulting in soot in chimney

I have my chimney serviced once a year and they’re awesome. They completely service the whole thing for $125. He says to burn a “creosote” buster log about once a month if you burn often and he says that will keep it from becoming a fire hazard. They’re like $15 and because we burn a lot in the winter, I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Um, I burn alot of hackberry. When its seasoned well and really dry it burns hot. A lil stinky if not fully seasoned. Lol
