i hunt area around gate 7. Went to fill up my bucket feeder last evening and some low life person took my timer, battery and two hook out of tree where I hang backpack and bow. Now what is sad is to think that it is other bow hunters and the fact the timer was 8yr old, battery 2 years old and hooks maybe 8 bucks total my est total loss maybe $25 is sad.
I only hog hunt since did not draw but when I see other hunters i tell them if they drew deer they can use my blind as this is public land whenever I'm not there as deer come to my feeder. I know there are others in area that have tree stands and feeders in that area that are more expensive that my cheap setup so you may want to be sure it's all there. ![]() |

Unfortunate but not uncommon. Find one of the guys that kills hogs out there. Most guys that kill a lot of hogs don’t use stands or feeders. Just know areas hogs cross and get pushed and hunt off the ground mobile

Same... as an adult you should know by now you can't trust anyone to do the right thing on public land. Not everyone is a stand up citizen or hunter so why trust them? Part of public land hunting, even if you believe otherwise.

Gotta feed that meth habit!
As much as it sucks and as wrong as it is I assume that anything i would leave out on public is going to get ganked or at least attempted. I'd still be mad if it happened though. Lots of trash folks out there :-( |

To the person who said I should no complain and finder keepers let's us know if and where you hunt on public land so people can help themseves to your car or truck. It is stuff like this no matter how much it cost that give people who dont hunt another reason to say all hunters are bad.

I don't think anyone is blaming the OP for getting his stuff stolen, more on the lines of his wishful thinking that his gear would still be there when he went to hunt.
There is enough intel out there saying this is a bad idea and the thinking his stuff would be safe is very naive. |

I'm not going to say that stealing is ok, but surely the OP has had enough exposure to humans to know that in general terms, they are junk. And just because they call themselves a hunter, does not imply that they have some higher moral standard than the majority.
If they did, there would be no need for game laws. This should go into the "lesson learned" category, and next time either conceal them better, buy cheaper cameras so it doesn't sting as much when they come up missing, or be smart enough to know that anything with any value left on ANY public land will get stolen. And yes for the record I hunt public land exclusively, so I know what it is like. |

Leave your stuff on public land expect it to be stolen, never understood Grangers rules of allowing stuff to be left out there all season, most places are much more restrictive. Never ceases to amaze me what nice equipment people leave out on public land, last week walked by a brand new Hawk stand and sticks and just shook my head, we scouted texoma corp land a few weeks back and I saw over a dozen game cameras, some were expensive cell cams.

Yes. On public land. Legally when you leave an object on public land "you have abandoned it" I was always taught to "respect the law of the land" and I am legally allowed to take what may be abandoned or not. It's not up to me to make that distinction. If you drop a 10 dollar bill in a city owned park would you consider a kid that picked it up a thief? I hope not. If you want to bash me for doing something that is 100% legal you need to direct your energy at changing the law and not direct your anger on a 100% law abiding citizen.

So according to some we can't complain about anything we know...
So no more threads about someone wrecking into your car..We all know how bad drivers are. No more complaining when they don't have insurance. No more complaining when a meth head breaks into your car or truck. |

I know I’m not reading this.Theres a big difference between loosing something abandoning something and leaving something to use it later. Its the woods not the inner city a man should not have to worry about a self entitled self righteous idiot helping himself to something that he knows is in use by some one else.I hope for that idiots sake they don’t let me catch them taking my property or any others property that doesn’t belong to them because there’s another law of the land that takes over. But at least we know your not a Christian I’ll pray for you and the others that don’t have a godly trained conscience. |

As for that child who found that $10 bill? Of course he should not be charged with theft. But does that mean he was right to keep it? No. If his parents are responsible parents, they should have taught the child that the right thing to do would be to turn it in to the appropriate authority. To capitalize on another’s misfortune is lower than low. |

If I put anything out on public land, it’s locked, out of reach with a tree step, and not over $50.
Best to remove temptation as much as possible, and never underestimate the sinfulness of your fellow man. It’s my opinion that most other places have the regulations in place that don’t allow stuff out there to keep this from happening. If you’re looking for something most folks won’t steal when it comes to hogs, I’ve used a piece of corrugated sewer pipe and crimped the bottom end shut and I have yet to have a jack wagon steal one on the places that allow it. |
