Default Cloudy store bought beef broth?

Just curious what you guys think about this.

I had 2 different brands of beef broth and one of them was really cloudy. Makes the stew look like it has cream in it. Iíve never seen this before and makes me worried about food safety. Thoughts?

Give me a sec and Iíll post pics...

This is the stew. It just started cooking and normally would be basically transparent broth. Itís foaming up a bit too.

Had you shaken up both the containers prior to pouring it out? They do settle in the packaging. Aside of that I think it’s two different recipes.

I love Better Than Bouillon, too. It’s the best on the market.

As to your questions regarding cloudy broth, it has been both my understanding as well as my experience that cooking a broth at high temps (I.e., boiling) is what causes the cloudiness. If your goal is a clear broth, cooking at low temps, and for a longer period of time, will yield this.

If your cloudy store-bought broth smells okay, is within the expiration date, and the package was not damaged, I would think you’d be okay. On the other hand, broth is not very expensive. If it disturbs your peace of mind, just toss it.

How did it smell ? Was it a can or a carton . I donít like the cartons . No way to really tell if it has had a bad seal or not . When you open it it tears the seal .

Better than Bullion here too. Doubt there is anything wrong with yours but we switched over a couple years ago.

When in doubt, throw it out

Seriously, something that cheap I am not taking any chances on ruining or negatively impacting taste of whatever I am cooking

Kevin hasn’t posted since 3:48pm yesterday, we can only assume he threw caution to the wind rather than the stew and hasn’t left the commode since!

BTB confirms the concentrated base is made from roasted beef. I use the lobster stock base for adding flavor to my seafood gumbo and etoufee

Perhaps the cloudy one is beef bone broth and not beef broth.
