    Crabbing on the Colorado River

We’ve been into em thick since yesterday. Caught 18 in about 2hrs and called it good. Boiled em and ate good. Set the trap overnight and fished again this morning. Got about 36 in the trap, but we’re mainly just using the trap as a live well. The kids are pulling them in with chicken legs on a string. Catch one, take the net to the bucket and before we’ve got it in there’s another one on the string.

Good times. Never got to do this when I was a kid so I am loving the fact that my kids get to. My 11yr old daughter is kicking her older brother’s butts. She’s hauling em in left and right.

Heck yeah. I grew up on the coast, and we crabbed all the time as a kid. I took my 5 year old girl for the first time a few weeks ago. It was hot and heavy, I let her scoop them all. We caught enough for a boil and crab cakes with the left overs.

Purge them in clean water for 24 hrs before cooking !
              They will taste much cleaner.

Good cheap fun. I use to crab with my mom all the time when I was a kid. I took my kids quite a bit when they were little. It's fun for everyone.

Good job getting the kids out and on the water.

That is awesome. Dust off the .460 Weatherby for the big ones--they can be tough. :-)

Here's a little trick for you to show the kids. Take a crab and flip him on his back and rub his belly. He'll go to sleep. Flip him over on his back with your dip net handle and gently rub his belly with the end of the dip net handle. He'll go to sleep and will just lay there until you tap him and wake him back up. The kids will get a kick out of that.
