    Refinished the 1851 navy revolver

Wanted a more antique look on my 1851
This is it the way I bought it, I’ve seen a few on the muzzleloading forum that folks aged one way or the other. I decided to strip the bluing with vinegar then put a patina on the bare metal with the mustard method.. I think it turned out pretty close to what I was going for.

Thanks! I meant to do a diy on those countertops but got in a hurry and didn’t take any pictures along the way.. they’re pecan wood from the San Antonio river bottom, my dad cut em on his sawmill and dried em for me

How does that thing shoot? Do you load loose powder or do they have pellets like they do for the muzzleloaders?

I love shooting this pistol! It shoots a few inches high from poa as most of these reproductions do. Some people file the notch deeper on the rear sight to bring the poi down but I’ve learned to just aim a little low.. it’ll shoot a decent group.. yes sir loose black powder or loose bp substitute, pellets won’t ignite reliably or at all with percussion caps, I believe they need a 209 primer
